The CCI is currently recruiting for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our patient focused inpatient team. Using advanced competency skills, the LPN will be responsible for treatment modalities such as central line care and access, delivery of systemic treatment and care of oncology/hematology patients within a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be a key member of the team utilizing the Integrated Collaborative Practice model. The LPN will have proven clinical thinking skills, an ability to prioritize competing demands, work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure the development, implementation, and ongoing administration of client care plans. The LPN will Identify and assess the holistic needs of patients and their families and provide professional nursing care by utilizing nursing processes consistent with the philosophy, objectives, and standards of Cancer Care Alberta and the CANO standards of practice. The CCI provides comprehensive cancer services for Edmonton and Northern Alberta. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). One year of acute care experience and/or training within the past 2 years. (Students with preceptorship or practicum experience in acute care will be considered equivalent). Acute care is defined as experience and/or training on an inpatient medical or surgical or emergency unit performing patient assessments, interventions, administering intravenous and oral medications, and providing patient education. Must be able to work within the full scope of practice as defined by CLPNA. Must be able to perform repetitive physical duties that include walking long distances, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching above shoulder, and able to lift a minimum of 15 kg. Must be assist with safe patient transfers and other duties related to patient care. Able to work in a fast paced and unpredictable environment with frequent interruptions and distractions. Must be competent in providing care to patients newly diagnosed through the continuum of end of life. Proficient written and verbal communication skills for safe patient/family care and interdisciplinary collaboration. Be self-directed and exercise independent decision making, sound nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Exhibit strong time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic team environment. Experience caring for oncology/hematology patients. Experience in administering systemic treatment. Experience working with elements of CoAct and collaborative care. Experience with administering blood products and derivatives, and wound care. Palliative certification and/or experience. Experience with Peripheral and Central Venous Access Devices. Experience with Connect Care.
