We are hiring up to two (2) Full-Time, Temporary Summer Student positions for up to 4 months (starting in May 2025) working out of Edmonton, AB

The Summer Student, Corporate Reporting is responsible for assisting the team with internal and external reporting processes. As the student, you will assist the team with preparing consolidated budgeting and forecasting analysis, updating quarterly working papers and consolidated reports for the preparation of Financial Statements.

The Summer Student, Corporate Accounting is responsible for assisting on regulatory filings of corporate costs and providing supporting analysis. The student will assist the team with the budgeting and forecasting process, routine accounting transactions, providing support to Accounts Payable, monthly financial analysis and reconciliations. The Summer Student will also support the Corporate allocation and fixed asset accounting function.

What you'd be responsible for

The Summer Student in our Corporate Reporting Team will be accountable for and gain experience in:

- Supporting the reporting requirements for the consolidated financial reporting function.
- Assisting with preparation of working papers for Financial Statements.
- Compiling and analyzing budget and forecast information.
- Assisting the corporate accounts receivable function with efficiency initiatives and quarterly working papers.
- Providing vacation coverage for routine tasks.
- Demonstrating a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented manner of working.

The Summer Student in our Corporate Accounting Team will be accountable for and gain experience in:

- Supporting regulatory filings of corporate costs and providing supporting analysis.
- Assisting on annual budgeting, forecasting and providing financial analysis.
- Providing input and supporting the fixed asset accounting function.
- Assisting the Corporate allocations function.
- Assisting with entering monthly recurring journal entries and project transfers.
- Assisting Accounts Payable function.
- Providing vacation coverage for routine tasks.
- Providing financial analysis support to the Shared Services groups.
- Demonstrating a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented manner of working.

What's required to be successful

- Enrollment in the third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree, with a major in Accounting.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills including Microsoft Excel.
- Intermediate financial accounting knowledge is considered an asset.
- Previous experience with Oracle or other ERP systems is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Previous experience working in an office environment is considered an asset.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Wage: $34.21 per hour; Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is subject to change based on the ratification of the new Collective Agreement.

Hours of work: 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours per week

- A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
- If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
- A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
- To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
