- $80,375/year) The Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) supports vulnerable Albertans by delivering programs and services that promote independence, protection, and well-being. Within ALSS, the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (OPGT) provides guardianship, trusteeship, and estate administration services and acts to protect the financial interests and property of represented adults, minors, and deceased persons when support and protection are required. The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee protects and administers over $775 million in property for approximately 12,000 vulnerable Albertan clients, including represented adults, minor children, and deceased persons. The Financial Services team contributes to the processing of approximately 500,000 financial transactions annually in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment, where accuracy, internal controls, and compliance with legislation, policy, and procedure are critical to protecting client financial interests. Role Responsibilities Reporting to the Senior Finance Lead, the Financial Services Specialist is responsible for the daily review and verification of a wide range of accounting entries, meeting daily deadlines, and processing requests within governing policy and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and requirements set out in the Public Trustee Act. This position is a specialized fiduciary financial services role that supports the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee's mandate. It provides a unique opportunity to apply accounting and financial administration skills in service of vulnerable Albertans, minors, and estates by helping safeguard client assets and liabilities through strong financial controls, sound judgment and legislative compliance. Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Process accounting transactions, collections, disbursements, and recurring financial activities in accordance with legislation, policies, procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and established internal controls.
- Prepare reconciliations, working papers, and supporting documentation to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records.
- Review, establish, and maintain Business Partner vendor accounts while ensuring compliance with documentation and internal control requirements.
- Process wire transfers, stop payments, authorized adjustments, and other financial transactions in accordance with governing legislation, policy, procedures, and accounting standards.
- Administer and safeguard client assets, securities, inventories, and financial records for vulnerable Albertans, minors, and estates under administration.
- Act as a liaison with Trust Administration to ensure appropriate financial controls, investigate and resolve transaction issues, and support the accurate administration of client assets and liabilities.
- Provide operational coverage across Financial Services functions, including transaction processing, recurring transactions, client asset administration and Finance Lead responsibilities as required.
