Job Title Polysomnographic Tech Program & Department Regular / Temporary Regular Full / Part Time Full-Time Temporary End Date (Anticipated) Union ON2 Requisition Close Date 25 December 2025 FTE 1.00 Salary Plan / Job Grade $38.20 - $43.99 ( OH_03 ) Job Posting Reason Current Vacancy Job Summary & Requirements The Polysomnographic Technologist (Sleep Technologist) performs and analyzes comprehensive night-time and day-time studies for the purpose of detecting and treating sleep disorders. The Sleep Technologist prepares the patients for monitoring, obtains and documents the patients’ history and educates the patients on sleep testing, sleep disorders, and relevant treatments. During data acquisition, the Sleep Technologist monitors the collection of data to ensure proper quality and addresses any technical issues. The Sleep Technologist constantly assesses and adjusts any therapy applied to the patients. The Sleep Technologist is also responsible for tending to the patients’ needs. They will document qualitative observations throughout the collection and create summary reports. The Sleep Technologist analyzes (scores) the data acquired during the collection and composes a quantitative report for the Sleep Specialist to interpret. For this specific vacancy, we are seeking a technologist who can also perform clinical Electroencephalography (EEG) studies. The EEG Technologist must recognize normal and abnormal patterns in wake and sleep for neonatal, paediatric and adult patients and help complete additional clinics and provide assistance with coverage for the full-time EEG Technologist. EEGs are done in the lab or at the patient bedside when necessary. Education - Undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences/Biology or College Diploma in RN, RT, EEG -required - Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) – required - Graduate from a recognized accredited school of Electroencephalograph Technology - required - Registration in good standing with, or in the process of obtaining registration with the Canadian Board of Registration of Electroencephalograph Technologists (CBRET) or American Board of Encephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) – required - Current BLS certification, required annually Experience - Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist performing and analyzing sleep studies is required - Minimum 2 years experience performing adult, neonatal and paediatric EEGs with a full understanding of seizure disorders and neurological disorders is preferred - Demonstrated experience using digital EEG recordings, video and portable EEG recordings - Demonstrated clinical competency in all aspects of EEG acquisition and procedures required - Able to work with paediatric population who present with a variety of challenges, such as developmental delay, cerebral palsy, meningitis, autism, etc. - Performing and analyzing (scoring) sleep studies as per AASM rules - Perform Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT) - Able to perform CPAP/BIPAP, oxygen and oral appliance titration studies efficiently - Understanding sleep disorders and corresponding treatment - Recognize normal and abnormal brain patterns - Able to adjust recording techniques for patients with disabilities, behavioural issues and security concerns to provide quality test results - Able to use software and monitoring equipment dedicated to EEG recording - Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others and strong interprofessional skills - Demonstrated respect for and a willingness to learn from the professional knowledge of other members of the health care team - Demonstrated problem-solving ability critical thinking and organizational skills - A commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others - Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service - Contributes as a team member, following Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre VITALLY YOU Values> Equity & Inclusion RVH is committed to recruitment and selection practices anchored in principles of equity and inclusion that contribute to an anti-oppressive, respectful, and culturally safe workplace.
