Senior Accountant

Position Overview

The Senior Accountant reports to the Divisional Controller and provides timely and accurate accounting support to the finance department at Calian Cyber Solutions.


Responsibilities
  • Manage general accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare and process numerous month-end journal entries for fixed assets, accrued liabilities, prepaid expenses, and insurance.
  • Balance and reconcile sub-ledgers including AP, AR, Bank, and Fixed Assets.
  • Prepare and approve monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate unusual entries and variances.
  • Review and create purchase orders for internal and external customers collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Approve bank transactions for payments, remittances, payroll filings, and commodity tax filings.
  • Classify entries in the general ledger and perform monthly analysis of expenses.
  • Assist the Controller with preparing and reconciling account files and reports.
  • Recommend internal controls for financial functions.
  • Act as backup for payroll, accounts payable and receivable, tax remittances, banking transactions, and payment runs.

Qualifications
  • Excellent understanding of accounting fundamentals.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting.
  • 4-7 years experience working with General Ledger in an ERP environment.
  • Previous accounting experience in a publicly traded company is required.
  • Project-based revenue accounting is an asset.
  • Strong grasp of internal controls and fundamental understanding of IFRS and revenue recognition.
  • High attention to detail, focus on deadlines, and ability to drive things to completion.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
