The Opportunity

We are seeking an accomplished Sr. Civil Principal Engineer to lead our expanding Civil Engineering practice in Peterborough, ON. This senior leadership position is integral to shaping Ecora’s technical direction, mentoring our team, and strengthening client and business partnerships across diverse sectors, including municipal infrastructure, land development, transportation, and industrial projects.

The ideal candidate is a visionary engineering professional who combines deep technical expertise with strategic business insight and high-level project management skills. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, guide major pursuits, and deliver impactful, sustainable solutions for our clients and communities.

Roles & Responsibilities

- Provide strategic direction, leadership, and oversight for major civil infrastructure projects from concept through delivery.
- Lead project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resourcing, and risk management to ensure successful outcomes across quality, cost, and schedule parameters.
- Manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, fostering collaboration among internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement in project delivery processes, ensuring efficiency and technical excellence.

- Oversee the design and review of complex civil systems, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility servicing, road design, and municipal infrastructure.
- Ensure all designs meet regulatory standards and client expectations while integrating sustainable and innovative engineering solutions.
- Review and seal engineering drawings, reports, and technical deliverables, maintaining professional responsibility for quality and accuracy.

- Build and sustain long-term client relationships through trust, responsiveness, and value-driven service delivery.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and strategic partnerships in collaboration with the leadership team.
- Prepare and oversee proposals, fee estimates, and marketing materials that align with Ecora’s growth objectives.
- Represent Ecora professionally at client meetings, community engagements, and industry events, enhancing our visibility and reputation.

- Mentor and support the professional growth of engineers, EITs, and technologists through coaching and performance feedback.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team culture aligned with Ecora’s values.
- Promote interdisciplinary coordination and knowledge sharing across disciplines.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering, including project management and leadership roles within a consulting environment.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, StormCAD, WaterCAD, and HEC-RAS.
- Strong understanding of Canadian civil engineering standards, municipal guidelines (e.g., MMCD), and regulatory processes.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships with clients, partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify and capitalize on new opportunities.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
