Site Accountant

King’s Point or Baie Verte, Newfoundland and Labrador

Venor is proud to partner with our client, New Found Gold Corp (NFGC), in the recruitment of a Site Accountant. Based out of Gander, Newfoundland, New Found Gold holds a 100% interest in the Queensway Gold Project, as well as the recently acquired Hammerdown Operation, Pine Cove Operation and Nugget Pond Hydrometallurgical Gold Plant circuit. The company is committed to responsible exploration and mining, leveraging strong infrastructure and a skilled local workforce in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Site Accountant will be based out of the company’s King’s Point or Baie Verte office, joining a young and dynamic team.

Position Responsibilities

- Assist the General Manager in annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting for the mine site.

- Responsible for month-end duties including but not limited to, monthly cost review, journal entry preparation and posting, statistics, reconciliations, and self-review of work to ensure accuracy.

- Manage Accounts Payable and Payroll Clerk to ensure they perform the responsibilities as necessary

- Work collaboratively with the Mine Operational departments (mine, process plant, human resources, procurement) in analyzing operational costs, trends, cost savings initiatives, and production reports.

- Verify the accuracy and completeness of mine cost data.

- Assess and pursue opportunities to improve the quality of cost reporting, evaluation, and presentations.

- Implement strong control environment as advised by the Corporate Toronto office

- Participate in the internal and external audit process.

- Assist in evaluation of authorization for expenditures, monitor AFE expenditures, keep record of any supplemental funds needed to ensure the projects successful completion.

- Back up to various functions in the finance area, capital reporting, review of accounts payable costing details, and cost issue resolution.

- Maintain accounting records in compliance with internal control requirements.

- Lead and participate in special projects and tasks as required by the General Manager.

Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree in accounting or finance preferred, BA degree in business or equivalent will be considered depending on experience; a CPA designation will be considered will be plus.

- 3-5 years of experience of accounting with a strong understanding of forecasting and budgeting.

- Preferred consideration will be given to candidates with mining, chemicals, and heavy industrial experience.

- Experience with large databases, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

- Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

- Able to develop, maintain smooth, cooperating working relationships with other members of the accounting department and mine operating departments to ensure accuracy of costs and planification.

- Reliable, self-motivated, proactive thinker with ability to manage multiple tasks (define problems and propose solutions).

- Able to handle short deadlines with a positive attitude.

- Strong attention to details, ability to collaborate with multi-department teams and work in a fast paced, changing environment.

- Experience with SAP and Microsoft Excel is desirable.
