Job Title: Summer Student - Inclusion Camp Leader

Wage: $18.11 hourly (2025)

Reports To: Supervisor, Community Partnership & Programs

Department: Community Services

Location: Lindsay Recreation Complex

Hours: Summer Full Time, 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday)

The City of Kawartha Lakes is hiring summer students, looking for innovative and passionate individuals interested in a two-month position from July to August. Our Summer Student Program introduces students to the public sector through challenging experiences while providing meaningful opportunities to contribute to the community.

To be considered for a Student position with the City of Kawartha Lakes, you must be:

1. Minimum of age 16
2. Registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year, 2024 to 2025
3. Registered as a full-time student with the intent to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year, 2025 to 2026

Job Description:

1. Provide 1:1 support to day camp participants to ensure successful participation in a camp environment.
2. Work with other camp staff to suggest and implement program and environmental adaptations as needed to support participant's involvement in camp programming.
3. Maintain communication with camp staff team and supervisors; ongoing professional communications with caregivers as required.
4. Encourage appropriate behaviour using learned strategies and acquired skills.
5. Assist participants with self-care needs including, but not limited to, changing of clothes, lifts, transfers, and feeding.
6. Ensure and promote the safety and care of all camp participants.

Qualifications:

1. Currently enrolled in a related field is an asset (i.e. Educational Assistant, Nursing, Developmental Service Worker, Personal Support Worker, Teacher, Therapeutic Recreation, etc.) and related experience.
2. Experience working with children (ages 5 to 12) with disabilities or unique needs.
3. Experience developing and implementing adaptive programming for participants to promote the inclusion of children with exceptionalities.
4. Previous work/volunteer experience working in a camp or similar setting is an asset.
5. Possess current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certificate preferred.
