If you're looking for a unique opportunity to bring your strategic advisory and occupational health and safety skills to a highly engaged team, where your efforts and impact will be recognized and valued, then this is the role for you.

We are SLR Consulting (Canada), a 600+ team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals across 18 office locations in Canada. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of advisory and over 30 technical environmental and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen.

As our new Occupational Health and Safety Lead Consultant, working as part of our Corporate Sustainability practice, you will play an important role in the development and execution of leading advisory services for our clients.

This is a leadership role in which you will be expected to, and be rewarded for, developing a new OHS consulting practice within an existing team of corporate sustainability professionals. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of environmental management and sustainability professionals to deliver high-impact advisory services to our clients.

You will provide technical leadership in our team, helping to build occupational hygiene and assurance expertise to deliver innovative and effective solutions. We are looking for a candidate with a strong consulting background who can provide strategic and technical expertise in occupational health and safety (OHS), helping organizations navigate complex regulatory landscapes, enhance risk management frameworks, and implement best-in-class OHS programs.

Working across multiple industries, you will support clients in identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating health & safety risks. This will involve working with clients and our own internal safety team to develop and deploy tailored OHS performance solutions, including OHS management systems and programs. While your primary role will be external facing, working with SLR's clients to deliver solutions, you will also be expected to provide support to the SLR Canada Corporate Health & Safety team, assisting in the implementation and continual improvement of SLR's Corporate Health and Safety Program, providing industrial hygiene support in assisting with exposure / air monitoring and developing exposure control plans.

You will have the opportunity to mentor other early-career professionals in occupational hygiene, sharing your passion for advancing worker health, safety, and well-being.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive consultant who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys engaging with clients, and is eager to shape the future of workplace health and safety within the broader sustainability landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide value-add strategic advisory services for external clients in occupational health and safety subject matters such as hazard identification and mitigation, risk assessment, gap analyses, program development, etc.
2. Design and implementation of occupational health & safety risk management programs.
3. Proven and practical knowledge in sectors such as mining, infrastructure, manufacturing, power, energy, built environment, marine etc.
4. Strong knowledge of federal and provincial health and safety regulations.
5. Ability to learn and apply your health and safety knowledge across applicable sustainability and banking / finance sector frameworks.
6. Advise internal and external clients on health & safety management systems and programs, including but not limited to ISO 45001 and COR (2020).
7. Rely upon your strong technical writing skills to lead the preparation of operational procedures used to define due diligence requirements and standard of care for occupational health & safety.
8. Conduct audits and assessments of regulatory compliance and management systems.
9. Support the SLR Canada Corporate H&S team to implement the internal health and safety program.

Working @ SLR:

With us, there is no doubt you'll grow your subject-matter expertise and industry knowledge. We care about investing in our employees for the long-run, and if you ask our team, they'll tell you that's just one of the many benefits of working here. We want to be a place where you can experience career growth and satisfaction for many years.

Here's what else you'll enjoy as part of our team:

- Competitive total compensation package including comprehensive benefits, vacation, and a suite of wellness initiatives.
- Full-time, permanent role with opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

1. Minimum of 8 years' experience providing H&S management systems consulting or advisory services to construction, mining, or industrial sector clients.
2. Certification as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with the Board for Global EHS Credentialing.
3. Other Professional Health and Safety designations such as CSRP are preferred.
4. Health and Safety Program Audit or Assessment designation or training (e.g. ISO 45001).
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

SLR strives to build diverse teams that reflect the communities we work in, and encourages applications from traditionally underrepresented groups including women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, people identifying as 2SLGBTQI+, veterans, and people with disabilities.
