The role involves providing support and specialist nursing advice to clinical colleagues in complex cases. To improve the care of patients within the clinical field by improving the knowledge and skills of first‑line staff through education (both clinic wide and on an individual basis), and to undertake audit, review and appropriate service development practices.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will directly deliver stoma care and give specialist advice on the management of complex colorectal cases based on current evidence to their own caseload, across a variety of settings, e.g. ward and outpatient department, in order to provide a flexible service that is responsive to the need of the client group.

Job responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Colorectal and Stoma Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Digestive Diseases Unit on a 9‑month fixed‑term contract. This role involves managing your own caseload across inpatient and outpatient settings, assessing, planning and delivering expert care, and providing specialist advice and guidance to patients, families and colleagues. The position combines clinical leadership, patient education and service development with a focus on improving patient experience and outcomes.

- Deliver specialist nursing advice and care for patients with colorectal disease and stoma needs.

- Lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of care pathways and clinical guidelines.

- Provide expert clinical support to nursing and medical colleagues in complex cases.

- Facilitate nurse‑led clinics and patient education sessions.

- Undertake audit, review and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

- Support and mentor junior nursing staff, contributing to professional development across the unit.

- Participate in service development to ensure best practice and continuity of high‑quality care.

Skills and Experience

- Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration.

- Minimum 5 years’ experience within colorectal or stoma care nursing.

- Recognised qualification in stoma care is desirable.

- Proven ability to provide complex clinical advice and manage a specialist caseload.

- Strong leadership, communication and teaching skills.

- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence‑based practice.
