How will I make an Impact?
At D2L, we’re looking for software developers who are passionate about technology and eager to help us transform teaching and learning around the world. Whether you're building core product features or strategic customer solutions, your work will help make dreams a reality. Our Custom Development Services (CDS) team operates with a services mindset, delivering tailored, billable solutions that integrate with Brightspace through extensibility. This team of developers work off-stack but within the same AWS infrastructure, managing their own release cadence and collaborating directly with clients. Developers at D2L are expected to bring ideas, collaborate openly, and contribute meaningfully to both technical decisions and team success. Whether you're shaping the future of our platform or solving unique client challenges, your perspective is essential.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Problem-solving mindset, with a track record of translating business requirements into technical solutions that improve efficiency, reliability and user satisfaction
- Deep technical expertise in backend development with Python or Node.js (experience working with PHP is an additional bonus)
- Strong software architecture skills, including designing API's microservices and data pipelines that integrate with cloud platforms (AWS)
- Database experience with both relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) systems including schema design, query optimization and data migration
- Experience with AWS, including designing and deploying serverless applications (Lambda, API Gateway, Dynamo, S3)
- Proficiency in modern development practices, such as automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
- Eager to explore and integrate emerging AI tools and services into daily development workflows
- Comfort working in a services-oriented environment, including awareness of billable work, time tracking, and cost management
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or similar technical discipline
This role works from D2L's HQ in Kitchener Ontario, with a hybrid work style and expectation of 3 days a week in office.
The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below. The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.
Base Salary Range
$85,000 — $125,000 CAD
