What is the role of a Financial Planner?
As a Financial Planner, you will focus on developing and deepening mass affluent client relationships by providing high quality advice and service. As a dedicated entrepreneur, you know how to build and leverage your external / internal networks and centres of influence and understand that growing a practice is all about building new and long-term relationships.
- External clients– As a Financial Planner you engage in proactive client outreach to individuals outside the Scotiabank network, showcasing the unique value a Financial Planner brings to their financial journey. Through meaningful conversations and tailored guidance, the goal is to demonstrate how expert financial planning can empower clients to clarify, pursue, and ultimately achieve their financial objectives—no matter where they are starting from.
- Internal clients–As a Financial Planner, you play a pivotal role in deepening client relationships by identifying and engaging with existing Scotiabank clients who may have limited interaction with the bank. You proactively mine opportunities and cultivate meaningful connections, positioning yourself as a trusted advisor. By building strong internal partnerships across the branch network, you ensure seamless access to the full breadth of Scotiabank’s resources—bringing the best of the bank to every client interaction.

Following a comprehensive financial planning framework, you will be responsible for the following:
- Driving investment sales and new client acquisition, while adhering to Global Sales Principles, compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Establish business development opportunities with prospects and clients within the assigned market area.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Business Development: Executing on business development plans for mass affluent prospects and existing clients. Identifying additional business development opportunities and facilitating the implementation of an investment solution and/or referral to the appropriate partners.
- Client-centricity: Providing client-centric investment solutions through a financial planning framework, aligning with Global Sales Principles. Conducting outbound communications and proactive calling to prospects to remain top-of-mind for future business opportunities. Conducting complimentary needs analysis across several financial statements, including competitor statements.
- Community Involvement: Participating actively in local professional and community events and associations and identifying opportunities to deliver community information sessions and financial seminars to develop and expand your network and develop prospects. Building and maintaining a market profile assigned market area. Networking with investment industry specialists while managing a small budget for independent marketing-based activities.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
- 3-years of experience in financial planning and investment sales.
- You’re a mutual fund certified professional with current accreditation and good standing for CIRO licensing requirements (Investments Funds in Canada or Canadian Securities Course).
- You have successfully completed the IPF designation.
- Proven networking, client acquisition and interpersonal skills; experience building and maintaining Centres of Influence (COIs).
- You’re goal-oriented and entrepreneurial. You can work independently as a self-motivated entrepreneur with minimal supervision and as part of a larger team.
- Extensive knowledge of competitive offerings, market trends, economic conditions, and the regulatory environment.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle, to meet clients and prospects within the designated district.

Other Information
The compensation structure for this role is base plus variable pay. This is a mobile role and will require frequent travel.
In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient knowledge of English, as the work involves interacting and collaborating regularly with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other people, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
