London, Ontario, Canada PocketHealth Full time
What if you could personally impact the future of healthcare? As part of the PocketHealth team, you will enable hospitals and clinics across North America — and more importantly, empower over a million patients — to discover a better healthcare experience.

PocketHealth is a patient-centric platform that enables hospitals and clinics across North America to share imaging records digitally with patients, instantly and securely. Through our platform, we enable patients to be active and engaged participants in their own care, and take control of their care journey. In addition to image sharing, which is the heart of the PocketHealth platform, we've grown our core functionality to enable sharing between hospitals and physicians, as well as instant image retrieval and automated importing capability. PocketHealth is a unified image management solution for over 600 hospitals and clinics across North America. We believe that by placing patients at the center of the record release process, data moves more ethically, easily and securely throughout the care journey, and we're looking for passionate individuals to help make this vision a reality for millions more patients across North America.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated System Administrator to join our dynamic Technical Services team. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in healthcare interoperability standards such as DICOM, HL7, and FHIR, and will play a key role in implementing, supporting, and optimizing PocketHealth solutions into the technical infrastructure of our hospital providers. The System Administrator will work closely with clinical and IT teams to ensure seamless data exchange and workflow automation in a highly regulated environment.

You'll be responsible for:

1. Integration Development & Support

- Design, develop, and implement integration solutions for healthcare applications using DICOM, HL7, and FHIR standards.

- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications for integration projects.

- Ensure interoperability between disparate healthcare systems, including Electronic Health Records (EHR), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), and others.

2. Data Mapping and Transformation

- Map and transform data between different formats (HL7 v2.x, HL7 v3, FHIR resources, DICOM images) to enable smooth data exchange between systems.

- Create and maintain interfaces that facilitate seamless flow of clinical data for improved patient care and workflow efficiency.

3. Testing & Troubleshooting

- Perform testing, validation, and troubleshooting of integration points to ensure data integrity and proper system functioning.

- Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to data transmission, system communication, and interface errors.

4. Documentation & Compliance

- Create and maintain technical documentation, including interface specifications, mapping documents, and integration guidelines.

- Ensure compliance with relevant healthcare regulations (HIPAA, HL7 standards, etc.) while designing and implementing integration solutions.

5. Collaboration & Communication

- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, clinical staff, and external vendors, to ensure the successful implementation of integration projects.

- Provide technical guidance and support to non-technical team members and end-users regarding integration-related issues.

What you need to be successful:

1. Education

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Health Informatics, or a related field.

- Advanced certifications in healthcare IT (e.g., HL7 Certification, FHIR Certification) are a plus.

2. Experience

- Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with healthcare system integrations, specifically with DICOM, HL7 (v2.x/v3), and FHIR standards.

- Hands-on experience with integration engines (e.g., Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, InterSystems Ensemble) and interface management. Familiarity with healthcare IT workflows, including Electronic Health Record (EHR) and PACS systems.

3. Skills & Knowledge

- Deep knowledge of DICOM imaging standards and how they integrate with healthcare IT systems.

- Strong understanding of HL7 messaging standards, including message structure, data types, and common use cases in healthcare.

- Practical experience with FHIR APIs, including resource management, search, and CRUD operations.

- Ability to map and transform data between disparate formats and systems.

- Familiarity with web services (REST/SOAP), APIs, and data integration protocols.

4. Technical Skills

- Experience with database management (SQL, NoSQL) and querying techniques.

- Familiarity with HL7 interface engines and integration platforms (Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, etc.).

- Knowledge of cloud services, healthcare cloud environments, and IT infrastructure.

5. Personal Attributes

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

- Adaptability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing healthcare environment.

You can do amazing things at PocketHealth. You can positively impact the healthcare journey for millions of people, while building your career and developing your skills. It doesn't have to be one or the other. It has been a part of our mission since our founding to empower patients & make healthcare accessible to all, and we know this can only be achieved with a team of diverse perspectives that is representative of the Patient & Provider communities we serve.

PocketPHolk love working here for these reasons and more; working remotely, our competitive salaries and benefits (stock options too), four weeks of paid time off, unlimited wellness days, extended mental health coverage and beyond - it's important to us that our PocketPHolk are taken care of in the same way we take care of our Patients & Providers.

If there are ways we can support you through the recruitment process with an accommodation, please let us know by reaching out to DEI@pocket.health. Applications are accepted via posting only.
