Overview

Verathon is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to become the newest member of our Visualization R&D Team located in Burnaby, BC.

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting electrical and hardware design and system development for Verathon's airway management medical devices and associated products. This position works closely with all members of the Verathon Research and Development team.

Responsibilities

- Design digital and analog circuits including schematic entry and PCB layout in Altium Designer for class-leading medical devices.
- Design and build test fixtures for product validation and verification.
- Perform electrical systems analysis, board bring-up, and debug complex designs.
- Conduct acceptance and certification tests based on FCC, IEC, FDA, and electrical safety regulations.
- Coordinate and lead technical activities for multiple programs within cross-functional teams.
- Help define system requirements, architect system design, and explore and implement new technologies.
- Represent Verathon as an electrical subject matter expert (SME) with contractor and vendor communications.
- Participate in the hiring process and provide mentorship to junior engineers and co-ops.
- Provide efficient and timely support to resolve production issues.
- Create and maintain detailed design documentation including BOMs, test reports, assembly instructions, and system specifications.
- Participate as an SME in design reviews, product transfer to production, and ECO procedures.
- Support the local Quality Management System.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
- 8+ years of demonstrated relevant experience.
- P.Eng from the EGBC preferred; ability and willingness to obtain a P.Eng license required.
- Proficient with multiple facets of electrical engineering such as circuit design, schematic entry, PCB design, component analysis/selection, EMC/regulatory, programmable devices, board bring-up, and debug.
- Experience with system architecture design and implementation of new technologies.
- Strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles for EM energy, signal integrity, and signal transmission lines.
- Solid understanding of communication protocols/techniques such as I2C, SPI, LVDS, and MIPI.
- Experience with VHDL/Verilog and design of systems based on FPGA and MPSOC devices.
- Ability to perform design analysis using DFMEA, FTA, or other recognized techniques.
- Expert-level experience with lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, DMM, and spectrum analyzers.
- Skillfulness with PCB rework and soldering small SMT components.
- Knowledge of FDA, IEC, ISO, and IPC regulations or standards.
- Capability to work under minimal supervision, be accountable for technical decisions, and prioritize tasks on multiple programs.

*For applicants without an Engineer in Training or a Professional Engineer license, an alternative title will be used until a license is obtained.
