Job Description:
Sinai Health System is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support the adult Medical-Surgical ICU and the Coronary Care Unit at our Mount Sinai Campus. This role is integral in the daily operations by assuring core clinical competencies and standards of nursing practice are maintained. The CNS will provide nursing leadership within the interprofessional team to enhance patient care quality and safety and build capacity of our people. The CNS will provide leadership in the development, implementation and advancement of educational programs to support novice to expert members of the team in the critical care environment.
In this role you will:
- Lead and coordinate education and professional development activities/programs.
- Perform activities to further develop and strengthen the nursing profession including the supervision of learners.
- Provide quality new hire orientation and competency development of existing staff.
- Support the use of evidence at the point of care for the purposes of continually improving nursing practice and patient outcomes.
- Utilize and demonstrate a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in care for critically ill adults and their families.
- Develop and enrich standards of nursing practice and management of patient care.
- Take a leadership role in supporting quality improvement activities.
- Participate and lead policy, procedure and program development and evaluation.
- Support innovation and research activities.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited educational institution required (Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a Master's Degree in a related discipline may be considered).
- Critical Care nursing certificate.
- 3-5 years' recent experience in an adult medical, surgical or cardiac ICU.
- Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses' of Ontario (CNO).
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution.
Preferred:
- CNA Certification in Critical Care Nursing.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Excellent decision-making, problem recognition, problem-solving skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Program planning and evaluation methodology skills.
- Experience in process improvement preferred.
- Experience in quality and safety initiatives.
- Experience providing education to individuals and groups.
- Commitment to collaborative practice.
- Ability to work effectively independently and under stressful conditions.
- Ability to utilize information technology.
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record.
