This graduate course builds on students' basic statistical background, equipping them to handle massive health data sets. The focus is on advanced statistical tests in machine learning and assembling these tests by accessing and validating publicly available R code and creating custom code as needed. Students will also learn techniques for web scraping, unstructured data handling, data cleaning, and data governance.
Course DetailsThe course emphasizes creative data analysis approaches and critical thinking about misleading analysis. Each class combines lecture and weekly tutorial assignments. A major project involves a large health data set that teams compete to analyze.
Teaching ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Selecting and inviting guest speakers
- Coordinating student team projects
- Meting with student teams to guide their projects
- Holding office hours as required
- Marking and evaluating student work, recording attendance, and submitting grades
To be considered, applicants must have experience teaching accredited courses at a recognized university, a PhD in statistical methods or biostatistics, advanced R coding experience, and published research analyzing clinical trial data. Experience working in a hospital environment is an asset.
