Reporting to the Head, Exhibitions & Gallery Planning, the Manager, Travelling Exhibitions is responsible for planning, implementing, and growing ROM’s Travelling Exhibition Program. The Manager, Travelling Exhibitions will develop business models, strategic action plans, and global marketing strategies; procure venues and liaise with borrowing institutions; and ensure logistical and physical exhibition readiness for travel.

- Generate and regularly update travelling exhibition operational and business strategies and action plans in collaboration with departmental colleagues and museum executives.
- Research, develop and market the international, national, and provincial travelling exhibition program.
- Develop and cultivate a network of institutional and private partners; represent ROM at relevant conferences and sales events; and ensure relevancy of ROM’s travelling exhibitions webpage.
- Develop innovative business models and strategic public and private partnerships to increase outreach, build profile and brand, and generate revenue.
- Identify and deliver innovative tour-related business opportunities, product development, and licensing strategies.
- Develop best practices for ROM’s various travelling exhibitions, in consultation with various internal stakeholders.
- Manage the travelling exhibition program in line with project management processes, and financial and procurement procedures.
- Create a tour schedule, tour budget (along with revenue stream), and tour marketing materials (i.e. prospectuses) for all travelling exhibitions.
- Coordinate with departmental colleagues in support of the travelling exhibition program including registration (i.e., object lists, copyright), learning, publications, retail and other related collateral, marketing, and promotion, and collaborate with project managers and designers on design and construction related requirements.
- Manage all logistical aspects of the travelling exhibition program including but not limited to organizing staff and project teams (couriers, installers, contractors), liaising with venues, negotiating, and administering contracts, and coordinating tour requirements such as transportation, permitting, and insurance with the assistance of relevant departments.
- Review and/or arrange the review of all work pertaining to ROM’s travelling exhibitions as completed by project team members, contractors, and vendors with the assistance of appropriate parties; evaluate whether the work is satisfactory or requires amendment.
- Nurture an inclusive and safe space for team members, furthering ROM’s support of diversity and IDEA (Inclusivity Diversity, Equality, and Accessibility) initiatives.
- Facilitate creative problem solving by the team.
- Other duties as required to deliver the travelling exhibition program.

Communication and Administration

- Develop, review, and administer travelling exhibition contracts and ensure host venues are meeting contractual obligations.
- Assist in the coordination and compilation of installation manuals and all necessary files and documentation for successful implementation of exhibitions at host venues.
- Ensure cost effective management and control of projects, always striving for best practice.
- Communicate, liaise, and be the primary contact with tour venues.
- Prepare relevant reports including, but not limited to, financial performance, business cases, attendance data, evaluation and customer satisfaction analyses, final evidence-based reports, action plans, policies and procedures, and others, as required.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings and presentations with host venues, project teams, and museum leadership.
- Maintain and build the contact relationship management system, and database of market research material.
