Detailed OverviewAs a Respiratory Therapist, you will perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to respiratory therapy: assist with in-service education and provide input into program development.
Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, interventions, and follow-ups as related to respiratory therapy such as assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and providing support initiating/maintaining mechanical ventilation support of adults, children, and infants, providing airway management, patient evaluation, and daily care of patients as prescribed.
- Maintain documentation by ensuring reports, records, and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to established departmental standards.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care goals, therapeutic/diagnostic strategies, and program-related issues.
- Monitor and perform required maintenance, cleaning, calibration, evaluation, and quality control of respiratory and related equipment: report supply needs as required; maintain relevant logs/reports.
- Participate in quality improvement activities such as the development, implementation, and evaluation of written procedures and standards, development of assessment forms and patient materials, and program descriptions as required.
- Provide in-service education as required.
- Participate in meetings and departmental committees and contribute to problem identification and resolution.
- Participate in Respiratory Therapy student education and various in-services for staff and the community as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam. Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).
Current CertificationsCurrent Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Level C. Possession of and maintained Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Skills and Abilities- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
