Assistant Teaching Professor in Recreation and Health Education

The School of EPHE is actively building a diverse, welcoming community of teachers, learners and researchers and invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor in Recreation and Health Education to begin July 1 st , 2026. Applicants should have a significant teaching experiences and strong record of scholarship of teaching and learning.
The candidate’s qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate’s final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $118,000. UVic is committed to offering an equitable and competitive salary, inclusive of a generous benefits package, eligible leaves and pension plan.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in a recreation and health education, recreation related discipline or equivalent, from a recognized institution by the time of appointment.
- Substantial recent and relevant teaching experience in higher education in the area of health and recreation.
- A thorough understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of teaching recreation and health education.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, research, and service.
- Relevant and recent post-secondary teaching experience that demonstrates a high calibre in teaching and a commitment to student engagement.
- Strong record of teaching achievement, some of which may include community-engaged scholarship and/or professional experience, relative to stage of career.
- Evidence of Scholarly Activity within the candidate’s discipline or in the field of the scholarship of teaching and learning.
The following will be considered assets:
- Preference will be given to applicants who teach with a specific focus in sport and recreation management or coaching studies.
- Experience coaching a range of age groups and abilities levels ranging from novice, recreational and high performance in one or more sports.
- Successful mentorship and supervision of the research activities of undergraduate honours students and graduate students.
- Evidence of engagement in academic collegial governance.
- Evidence of significant contributions to curriculum and program development
- Evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
The School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education (EPHE) is an academic unit within the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria (http://www.uvic.ca/education/exercise/ ). Our mission is to advance knowledge and to prepare professionals in the area of physical activity, recreation, and health through teaching, research and service.
