Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Coordinator Security Investigations, the primary focus of this position is to review and investigate security incidents related to violence, sexual violence, and sexual assault. Additionally, this position may assist in other criminal or complex incidents requiring investigative support, as well as provide specialized investigative expertise to Security Services and other College departments. Responsibilities include assisting with policy development and compliance, liaising with external agencies, and managing security incidents on a 24-hour basis within the context of the Security Services mandate.

The Investigator will analyze, prioritize, coordinate, and conduct investigations pertaining to crimes against persons, violence, sexual violence, sexual assault, and other complex investigations, assigning work related to preliminary investigation requirements.

The incumbent will conduct sensitive or specialized internal and external investigations as required and prepare investigative reports, recommendations, and cases for presentation in support of internal processes, such as labour relations and student conduct proceedings, as well as external criminal and provincial court proceedings. Responsibilities include the collection of evidence, maintenance of files, reports and notes, and production of summaries and reports to support testimony in judicial or disciplinary processes.

Required Qualifications:

- 2 Year Diploma Program in Law & Security Administration, Security Management, Police Foundations, or related field, or equivalent training through an accredited police agency;
- Graduation from an accredited police college;
- General or advanced investigative techniques training from an accredited police college;
- Specialized training in sexual assault, sexual violence, and/or crimes against persons from an accredited police college;
- Interviewing and statement taking training;
- Threat/Risk Assessment Training.

The Investigator must possess the following skills:

- Advanced knowledge in the conduct of sexual assault and sexual violence investigations;
- Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills;
- Advanced investigation skills;
- Advanced knowledge of law enforcement techniques and police procedures;
- Evidence collection procedures;
- Case management and interviewing skills;
- Communication and public relations skills;
- Management and organizational skills;
- Report writing and computer literacy;
- Client service skills;
- Training skills;
- Knowledge of court procedures, criminal/civil law;
- Understanding of Human Rights Legislation.
