As an integral part of the project team, the Project Designer is a developmental role that provides support to design team projects and actively learns and works to the Bennett Design interior design project processes, Discover, Plan, Implement, Monitor and Close, including Pure Design – with the high level of detail and documentation that our firm is known for. While continuing to provide project support, once assimilated, this role begins leading small projects and take more responsibility in executing contract management activities.

This position reports to the Project Team Lead Designer.

Role and Responsibilities

Project Work

- Introduction to site verifications
- Assist with working drawings
- Complete project set up, ensuring AutoCAD drawings are site accurate
- Set up drawings and converts to BDA standards
- Assist with drawing mark ups
- Introduction to space planning
- Participate in the initial concept development with the project team
- Assist with sourcing and ordering finishes, materials, and meeting with vendors
- Create working drawings, as required
- Assist in preparation of renderings, initial and final plans
- Participate in all Team Meetings
- Attend project kick-off meetings, as required, working to develop a high-level understanding of all project objectives, project charters, work plans, project decisions and direction
- Work to develop knowledge of d.i.g. principles, practices and applications

Contract Management

- Assist with project work according to Project Plan and, at times, with assigning project work
- Assist with the preparation of all change notices and instructions
- Assist with shop drawing reviews
- Assist with deficiency reviews and reporting
- Assist in subcontractor coordination
- Assist with Photo Shoots

Client Relationship Management

- Provide day to day client contact, as required
- Documentation and Process Quality Assurance
- Continue to become more adept in Building Code compliance and its application to various projects
- Work to confidently interpret regulations, procedures, plans, drawings, and specifications
- Learn principles of Risk Management as it relates to managing design projects

Organizational Support

- Comply with all BDA standards and processes
- Act as an ambassador of the BDA culture and core values
- Perform 'librarian of the month' duties when appointed
- Assist with the Student Internship Program as required
- Complete and submit timesheets on Friday of each week
- Attend all training sessions and participate in continuous learning as required
- Attend all mandatory in office meetings as required (Bennett New Year, Quarterly Town Hall, Performance Reviews etc.)

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

Education & Specialized Knowledge

- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Interior Design from a recognized accredited College or University
- Studying for or has the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ)
- Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) membership (if applicable)
- Must become familiar with and develop knowledge of building code requirements, laws, standards, and regulations as it relates to project work, with the ability to interpret and apply
- Must become familiar with and develop knowledge of the interior design process from Discovery to Project Close Out phases
- Must become familiar and develop knowledge of products and materials and their use and application for project work
- Familiar with building systems
- Learn to incorporate a workplace strategy approach to projects
- Learn principles of project budgeting and scheduling

Experience

- Minimum three (3) year's experience in interior design
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or SketchUp/Vray and all Microsoft Office applications
- Accountable to deadlines and deliverables
- Organizes and schedules tasks effectively
- Can effectively handle several tasks and problems at once
- Approaches tasks with a "can-do" attitude
- Open to different and new ways of doing things and has a willingness to modify one's preferred way of doing things
- Ability to anticipate and recognize problems, gather information, and notify Project Lead/Team Lead of problems in a timely manner
- Adapts well to changing priorities, deadlines, and directions
- Asks questions to ensure understanding
- Exercises a professional approach with others using all appropriate tools of communication

Direct Reports

- This role has no direct reports.

Working Conditions

This role is permitted to work remotely in addition to working from the Bennett Design office. Employees working remotely must comply with all company policies and practices listed in the Employee Handbook, including but not limited to, the Mobility Policy, Health & Safety Policy and Attendance Policy. In this role you are required to occasionally, travel to the client site for site visits, site measures, and deficiency walk-throughs. Travel includes to and from job sites through the province of Ontario and throughout Canada. At times, you may also be required visit construction sites and may be required to wear the appropriate safety equipment (safety hats, boots, vests etc.).

Physical Requirements

- This role involves sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing for extended periods of time.
