Grants Financial Analyst - Research Finance

Reporting to the Manager, Finance and Research Services, we are seeking a full‑time, temporary (18 months) Grants Financial Analyst who will assist with all aspects of financial support for the Research business unit within CAMH. The successful candidate will build effective, collaborative relationships with Principal Investigators and Scientists and manage their financial grant portfolio as their main point of contact for post‑award grant operations and will perform grant related post‑award functions which include financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, granting agency regulatory financial oversight compliance and expense analysis, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will also work strategically with internal client departments, research programs and management to provide financial analysis, financial reporting and accounting services.
Your accountabilities will include:
- Building working relationships with Principal Investigators, Scientists and their teams and manage their financial grant portfolio as their main point of contact for post‑award grant operations.
- Performing financial planning, budgeting, compliance, documentation, expense analysis, financial reporting, reconciliations, monitoring and associated communications with granting agencies for their assigned portfolio.
- Constantly reviewing assigned portfolio to assess the status of ongoing grants and the burn rate of the grants to evaluate funding requirements and potential deficiencies.
- Communicating and reporting potential funding deficiencies in a timely manner to the Principal Investigators and Scientists and the Research Finance Manager.
- Collaborating with Corporate Finance/Payroll/Human Resources/Capital Accounting to ensure smooth processes and interfaces on any financial issues.
- Preparing grant closeout functions required by Research Finance and external agencies including reconciliations, financial status reports, final invoices, zeroing out budgets, and final reporting.
- Reviewing general ledger transactions and grant contracts for compliance with related accounting, CAMH and agency regulations.
- Working closely with Payroll to resolve payroll rejections and process salary cost transfers.
- Conducting specific month end reporting tasks, external audit preparations for specific balance sheet accounts, monthly/quarterly/annual reporting, variance analysis and selected reconciliations.
- Supporting the capital accounting/forecasting processes.
- Working with sensitive and strategic information as it relates to Research grants and contracts to implement any required cost cutting measures, including staffing levels.
- Supporting the Research business unit in education and training of Principal Investigators, Scientists and their teams by assessing needs and resolving issues related to grant accounts and analysis and support for grants.
- Reviewing and improving related internal controls and assisting with ensuring compliance within internal controls, PSAB accounting guidelines, CAMH policies, CICA Handbook standards and granting agency regulatory requirements.
- Supporting an environment that encourages best practices, high standards, and innovation.
- Developing additional analysis and reporting on a regular or ad‑hoc basis to respond to management requirements for timely, accurate and relevant financial information.
- Other relevant duties as assigned by management.

This position is hybrid (at least 3 days onsite per week) and is located at 250 College Street.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a recognized institution, or equivalent experience.
- A professional accounting designation, i.e. CA, CMA, CGA, finalist or equivalent experience.
- Familiar with the application of GAAP and other financial standards, ideally in a PSAB environment.
- 5 years of related accounting and financial experience, preferably with grant management and/or non‑profit experience.
- Demonstrated business experience in financial reporting, financial statements preparation, financial analysis, reconciliations, general accounting processes and fiduciary requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem recognition and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to design, analyze, and prepare financial reports.
- Must be self‑motivated, proactive, and have demonstrated excellence in organizing and prioritizing workflow in a fast paced and high volume environment.
- Highly computer literate with advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to liaise with internal and external departments.
- Strong relationship building and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in computerized accounting systems and software applications, with an aptitude for learning new computer applications quickly.
- Experience with Lawson Financial Systems and Oracle ERP is an asset.
- Record of work accuracy and timeliness under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrates the ability and interest in working with a diverse team in an environment that values diversity and equity.
- Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
