Title and Summary
Senior Counsel, Privacy & Data Protection, Identity
Mastercard is committed to driving innovation by prioritizing individual privacy, data protection, and Corporate Data Responsibility. We embrace privacy and data protection as core to the successful execution of our business strategy. As part of that commitment, Mastercard has established a world-class international privacy program and is currently adding talent to its Global Privacy & Data Protection team.
The Senior Counsel, Privacy & Data Protection, Identity will be responsible for ensuring that Mastercard's Identity Solutions comply with privacy and data-related laws globally. The position will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Privacy and Data Protection and will be a member of the Global Privacy & Data Protection team as well as a member of the Law & Policy (L&P) team.
The Senior Counsel will provide strategic and hands-on guidance to enable products and services in compliance with applicable global privacy and data laws, direct negotiation of complex product-related agreements representing Mastercard's position on critical data protection considerations. Strong collaboration will be required across the Global Privacy & Data Protection team, Law and Policy Department, Sales and Commercialization teams, and other business functions.
The position will be based in Vancouver, Canada.
Role
1. Oversee privacy support for Sales and Commercialization Identity teams.
2. Develop contract structures, review contracts, and manage complex negotiations with customers, partners, and vendors, to ensure privacy compliance as well as to secure data use rights.
3. Keep abreast of privacy and data protection issues arising from identity verification technologies.
4. Engage with the organization on privacy and data-related matters, e.g. through employee training and raising employee awareness about relevant regulatory or industry developments.
5. Provide regular trainings and updates about emerging issues to the Global Privacy and Data Protection Team and creative approaches to ensure privacy compliance.
6. Actively participate in external speaking engagements on various privacy topics.
All About You
1. Canadian law degree required. Membership to a Bar (if permitted by law).
2. Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience.
3. Any additional qualifications (e.g. Master of Laws degree, CIPP/E, CIPP/US) is considered an asset.
4. Solid knowledge of global privacy laws, including the GDPR, CCPA, and relevant regulatory guidelines and opinions.
5. Demonstrated experience in working with business and end customers leading direct negotiation of complex product-related agreements independently.
6. Superior time management, planning, and organizational skills.
7. Strong analytic capabilities and written and oral communication skills. Attention to detail is a must.
8. Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering. Must work well in both team and individual settings, including across global jurisdictions.
9. Ability to motivate and influence highly skilled professionals to achieve major organizational goals.

Pay Ranges
Vancouver, Canada: $135,000 - $216,000 CAD
