We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Financial Accountant to join our team and support the finance operations of a growing global engineering consultancy.
This position reports directly to the Manager, Finance & Tax and works closely with members of the finance team, business leaders, and external service providers. The role provides broad, hands-on experience across day-to-day accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, cash management, financial reporting, and business analysis, while building expertise in multi-entity and international operations.
This is an excellent role for an early-career accounting professional looking to expand their skills and grow within a dynamic finance function.
The position supports operations across Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, and the Dominican Republic, with potential exposure to new jurisdictions as the business expands. Prior international accounting experience is not required. We are looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation, excellent attention to detail, curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for multiple international entities.
- Review and monitor general ledger activity and prepare reclassification and ad hoc journal entries to ensure transactions are recorded to the appropriate accounts and organizational units.
- Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items.
- Record deposits and payments in the ERP system.
- Support banking and payment administration, including identifying unrecorded deposits, coordinating online payments, and maintaining appropriate supporting documentation.
- Assist with invoice entry in the ERP system and monitoring workflow approvals.
- Support cash management and cash flow forecasting activities.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes and the preparation of annual entity financial statements.
- Assist with intercompany accounting, including reconciliations, settlements, and preparation and maintenance of intercompany agreements.
- Assist with financial and business analysis, and the preparation of business unit reporting, including Operating Committee and Board reporting materials.
- Support collections and follow up on outstanding accounts, as required.
- Assist with research and finance-related activities associated with the setup and ongoing operation of international offices, including corporate compliance requirements.
- Assist with local accounting system and process initiatives, including implementation or improvement of ERP modules and other finance processes.
- Prepare and maintain country-specific finance handbooks and other process documentation.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting and administrative processes and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with finance teams, business leaders, and external advisors across multiple jurisdictions to resolve accounting and reporting matters.
- Provide support on additional accounting, finance, compliance, and business initiatives as required. We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do, however, request the following minimum
qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant accounting experience, including exposure to general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end processes, or accounting administration.
- Good understanding of fundamental accounting principles and the relationship between transactions, general ledger accounts, and financial statements.
- Excellent numerical skills and strong attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with BST11 or a similar ERP system is an asset.
- Experience with multi-entity, intercompany, or international accounting is an asset but is not required.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, investigate discrepancies, and adapt to unfamiliar processes and subject areas.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and recurring monthly responsibilities.
- Proactive and solutions-oriented approach, including a willingness to identify process improvements and take initiative in resolving routine issues.
- Ability to work independently on assigned responsibilities, recognize when an issue should be escalated, and collaborate effectively with colleagues across different business units and jurisdictions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in engineering, consulting, or another professional or technical services environment is an asset. Along with continued career development, KCB offers:
