The mandate of the Office of the Attorney General is to promote the impartial administration of justice and ensure the protection of the public interest in New Brunswick on behalf of the Crown. The Office includes the Division of Public Prosecution Services.
The Public Prosecution Services of the Department of Justice and Public Safety, Office of the Attorney General, is seeking individuals to join the Specialized Prosecutions Branch as Crown Prosecutors in Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton. Please indicate your preferred location. If you are interested in a position in more than one location, please specify the locations of interest in order of preference in your cover letter.
Written and spoken competence in English and French is required for some positions, while others require written and spoken competence in English only. Please state your language capability.
What you will do
As a member of the Public Prosecutions team, the successful candidate will handle criminal and quasi-criminal prosecutions in all levels of Court for offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Control Drugs and Substance Act, Cannabis Act and Provincial Statutes. The work involves, but is not limited to, providing advice to law enforcement on investigations, advising on the laying of charges, pre-trial preparation including interviewing witnesses and researching points of law, and appearing before Provincial Court, the Court of King's Bench, and the New Brunswick Mental Health Review Board.
Reporting directly to the Director of Specialized Prosecutions, in addition to carrying out the routine duties of a prosecutor, Crown Prosecutors with the Specialized Prosecutions Branch may be assigned to handle files in areas including but not limited to:
1. Internet Child Exploitation (ICE)
2. Organized Crime
3. Indigenous Litigation
4. Proceeds of Crime
5. Fraud and financial crime
6. Conflict of Interest files
7. High Risk Offenders
8. Coroners Inquests
9. Criminal Code offences at all levels of Court
10. Regulatory Offences
11. Matters before the New Brunswick Mental Health Review Board
Work environment
Office location: Moncton, Saint John or Fredericton
Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week

Need to have (essential skills and qualifications)
Law Degree; completion of Articling; and membership in good standing or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of New Brunswick.
Experience in advising law enforcement with respect to complex investigations.
Knowledge and experience in the area of judicial authorizations.
Nice to have (Asset Qualifications)
Experience in the conduct of jury trials.
A demonstrated interest or experience in ICE prosecutions.
Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.
Crown Prosecutors – Up to 8 years of membership in good standing at the bar. Please state your date of admission to a Canadian Law Society.
Senior Crown Prosecutors – Minimum of 8 years of membership in good standing at the bar. Please state your date of admission to a Canadian Law Society.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check.
Candidates must demonstrate on their applications how they have acquired the education and experience for this position. Your résumé should be in chronological order specifying education and employment in months and years including part-time and full-time employment.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirement(s) is also required:
1. Significant Travel – The incumbent will be required to cover courts throughout New Brunswick.
2. Possession of a valid driver's license.
Wage
Lawyer from $86,348 – $136,878 annually based on admission date to the bar.
Senior Lawyer from $138,248 – $181,145 annually based on admission date to the bar.
Recognition and Retention Premium
The recognition and retention premium is based on written confirmation of admission to the bar of a Canadian law society.
Fifteen (15) years but less than twenty (20) years – 1.0%
Twenty (20) years but less than twenty-five (25) years – 2.0%
Twenty-five (25) years – 3.0%.
