The firm leverages an extensive on-the-ground network to seek out the most promising cleantech and IT investment opportunities in Western Canada and also selectively leads cleantech investments in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and the rest of Canada. Once involved in a deal, they take an active, lead role with entrepreneurs, building teams and well-financed companies that can dominate growing markets.

Scope of the Position

Reporting to the General Partners, the Partner is responsible for fundraising, fund investment, and firm operations. The Partner will provide subject matter expertise in information technology.

Fundraising

- Develop fund offerings by analyzing venture capital investment trends, defining portfolio strategy, and analyzing fund performance.
- Manage relationships with prospective and existing Firm Limited Partners.
- Negotiate limited partnership and associated agreements, including side letter agreements, and close funds.
- Support investor relations activities such as annual general meetings, quarterly reports, conference calls, and in-person meetings.
- Assist in managing events involving institutional and individual Limited Partners.
- Support fund marketing through notices of major achievements, syndication events, executive/board recruitments, and significant portfolio events.

Fund Investment

- Develop deal flow through public relations, including speaking engagements, panels, interviews, articles, and conferences.
- Conduct sectoral analysis and perform due diligence reviews.
- Manage service providers like lawyers, tax advisors, and technology consultants.
- Close deals by progressing investment decisions through the Deal Flow Management Process and marketing portfolio company financings.

Transaction Support

- Lead deal structuring and negotiate term sheets to finalize agreements.
- Assist with investment capital forecasting, planning, and timely issuance of capital calls and wire transfers.
- Review and comment on closing documentation.

Reporting

- Ensure timely completion of quarterly review materials and reports.

Corporate Development

- Monitor industry trends to identify partnership and collaboration opportunities.
- Build support for strategic initiatives and assist in strategic partnership agreements.
- Establish and lead board committees for strategic transactions and liquidity events.

Board Governance

- Manage relationships with portfolio company executives and board directors.
- Prepare for board meetings and manage related expenses.

Portfolio Management and Adding Value

- Analyze portfolio company performance and assist in executive and board recruitment.
- Support non-dilutive funding efforts and maintain beneficial industry relationships.

Firm Operations

- Support term sheet negotiations and facilitate timely closings.
- Prepare and file closing documentation.

Preferred Candidate Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree in computing or business.
- Proven experience as a C-level executive in a successful IT products business, especially in high-growth segments in Alberta.
- Background with a VC or private equity firm focusing on early-stage IT companies.
- Experience in technical program and product management, with a transition to market-focused leadership roles.
- Deep understanding of IT industry dynamics, market trends, and risk factors.
- Existing Alberta network of IT industry professionals, with a preference for broader networks including Silicon Valley and Seattle.
- Strong communication skills, influential in building consensus and debating constructively.
