About the workplace
As the Director, Corporate Platforms, you will lead and oversee the strategy, implementation, and management of business applications within Vancity. You will be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of technology applications to make sure that Vancity has cost-effective, optimal (stable, secure, scalable) technology business solutions that enable business outcomes. As a digital leader, you will lead the discovery of COTS applications, development, deployment, and support of a new, cutting-edge digital banking platform, using your extensive experience in digital banking, exceptional vendor management skills, and a proven track record of launching and supporting complex client-facing systems. This role plays a pivotal part in shaping an organization's technological landscape, ensuring the tools that support daily operations are efficient, secure, and aligned with business strategies.
This role will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office or Toronto home based office. Vancouver-based candidates may be expected to come into the office at least once per week.
A typical day would involve:
1. Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute the corporate applications strategy in alignment with the organization's goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to understand business needs and identify opportunities for transformation.
- Drive continuous improvement in business processes through the effective use of technology and application solutions.
- Manage a complex network of vendors and service providers, ensuring that all partnerships contribute to the successful delivery and operation of platforms. Negotiate contracts, define service level agreements (SLAs), and maintain strong relationships with all external partners.
- Identify opportunities for automating business processes and improving operational efficiencies.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the organization ahead of the curve.
- Oversee the selection, implementation, and management of key corporate platforms/apps (e.g., Finance, HRIS, ECM etc.).
- Ensure the applications portfolio supports business functions such as Finance, Human Resources etc.
- Manage vendor relationships for application providers and software partners.
- Lead the stand-up and deployment of platform(s) from concept through to production. Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of the platform, ensuring it meets high standards of reliability, security, and user experience.
- Establish and oversee production support processes for the platform, ensuring maximum uptime and rapid resolution of issues. Implement monitoring and incident management tools to proactively identify and address potential problems.
1. Team Leadership and Development:
- Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers, developers, and support staff dedicated to support the platforms.
- Foster a collaborative environment to drive innovation and problem-solving within the team.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with business leaders across Vancity to ensure alignment with organizational goals and member needs.
1. System Integration and Architecture:
- Oversee the integration of corporate applications with other enterprise systems, ensuring data consistency and process automation.
- Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of corporate applications.
- Maintain system architecture to optimize data flow and user experience.
1. Security and Compliance:
- Ensure that applications comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Work with IT security teams to ensure the security and integrity of application data and systems.
- Develop and enforce policies around user access, data privacy, and disaster recovery for critical applications.
1. Budgeting and Cost Management:
- Manage the budget for corporate applications, including software licensing, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Optimize application-related spending to maximize ROI.
You have:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in corporate applications, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Expertise in enterprise applications (Finance, HRIS, etc) along with strategic and operational roadmaps.
- Experience with system integrations, cloud solutions, and IT governance frameworks.
- Develop/Implement technology applications in alignment with architecture principles while meeting business needs and optimizing functionality.
- Develop and implement disciplined practices and standards that facilitate the successful implementation of technology-enabled programs and projects.
- Establish the optimal technology state for applications to inform the Integrated Business Technology Solutions Roadmap.
- Build leadership strength by coaching staff in the development of critical competencies and by modeling valued leadership behaviors.
- Maintain knowledge of IT and global best practices and use this information to improve organizational effectiveness.
- Review and analyze existing applications effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
- Assess and maintain the organization's repository of software applications through best practices and the appropriate staffing and management of a technical team.
- Guide and assist the team on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical applications.
- Identify and eliminate security vulnerabilities with strategic solutions that increase data security.
- Delivery experience with Agile methodologies.

The salary range for this role is $121,000 to $181,200 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
