Description

Purpose

The Purchasing Supervisor reports to the Manager, Purchasing and is a key contributor within the Procurement team at Armstrong Collective, supporting purchasing operations across our various locations.

This role is responsible for executing and overseeing day-to-day purchasing activities, ensuring timely, (cost-effective), and quality acquisition of goods and services. The Purchasing Supervisor works closely with the Mechanical and Guest Experience teams to meet operational needs and maintain supply chain continuity.

In addition to supporting the Manager, Purchasing, this role collaborates with and mentors the Purchasing Coordinator, fostering a collaborative and service-oriented environment. The Purchasing Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining purchasing system accuracy, supporting procurement audits, and ensuring compliance with established procedures.

The Purchasing Supervisor is expected to deliver consistent, high-quality service and to foster strong, transparent relationships. In collaboration with departments across the organization, the Procurement team is committed to enhancing long-term value through strategic sourcing, sustainable practices, and supplier partnerships that support Armstrong Collective’s values and mission.

Key Areas of Accountability

Purchasing Operations

- Execute the full purchasing cycle, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of inventory to frontline teams.

- Review and process purchase orders (POs), ensuring alignment with the approval matrix and operational requirements.

- Support vendor onboarding and maintain accurate supplier records.

- Liaise with internal departments and external vendors to resolve issues and maintain strong relationships.

- Monitor supplier performance and escalation concerns to the Manager, Purchasing.

- Assist in tracking procurement metrics and identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency.

Sourcing & Logistics

- Collaborate with frontline teams to forecast needs and maintain supply chain reliability.

- Support vendor selection and provide input on sourcing decisions.

- Support coordinator logistics for inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring timely delivery and compliance.

- Maintain relationships with brokers, 3PL, and shipping partners.

- Support the development of supplier relationships that align with Armstrong Collective’s values and operational goals.

- Ensure transparency and accountability in supplier interactions.

- Assist in maintaining and optimizing purchasing processes.

- Mentor and support the Purchasing Coordinator, fostering skill development and teamwork.

- Act as a resource for junior team members, promoting a collaborative and high-performing culture.

- Provide feedback and guidance to improve team effectiveness.

System & Process Compliance

- Ensure purchasing activities comply with internal policies and procedures.

- Maintain accuracy in procurement systems and documentation.

- Support procurement/finance with audits and reporting requirements.

Safety

- Comply with all Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR), General Operating Instructions (GOI), and other safety policies.

- Identify and report safety hazards to management and OH&S committee.

- Wear required PPE and attend First Aid training as directed.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Knowledge

- Diploma or degree in business, supply chain management, or related field.

- Professional certification (e.g., SCMP, ISM) is an asset.

- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

- Minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing or procurement operations.

- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Familiarity with purchasing systems and vendor management.

Skills

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

- Proficiency in procurement systems (e.g., COUPA, NetSuite, Guide Ti) is an asset.

- Ability to analyze data and identify opportunities for improvement.

- Capable of negotiation and influence.

- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.

Compensation

- The base salary offered for this role is $63,000 to $77,000 per annum and can vary based on job-related expertise, qualifications, experience and internal equity.

- Eligible for Armstrong Collective’s discretionary bonus program.
