The Financial Consultant, Regional Services contributes to the overall success of the MD Financial Management ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. All activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will assist MD’s physician clients and their families in achieving their personal financial goals. Working as a partner with MD’s Specialist Advisors, you will leverage your experience and strong client focus to prepare comprehensive financial plans and specific investment strategies for clients. You will identify and develop new opportunities to prospect and grow the client base, while ensuring retention through strong relationship building and the development of comprehensive financial plans.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Build and execute on a monthly contact plan focused on engaging clients in financial planning and advice.
- Complete financial planning in risk management, estate planning, liability management, cash‑flow/budgeting, education funding, tax, retirement planning, investment management, practice management and goal setting.
- Prepare and update comprehensive financial plans and specific investment strategies based on MD Management developed and managed optimal portfolio ranges.
- Understand and comply with all industry regulations and MD’s program and process requirements.
- Be responsible for client meeting preparation, post‑meeting notes and identifying next opportunities, gathering and inputting financial data resulting from discovery conversations.
- Increase visibility of products and services through contact with centers of influence.
- Keep current on issues affecting the financial affairs of clients, including a general knowledge of income tax, investment trends and products, as well as other issues impacting clients.
- Travel within the established travel circuit.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of your respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day‑to‑day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We’d love to work with you if you have:
- University degree in business, commerce, or a degree related to the practice of financial planning.
- CIRO licensed as a Registered Representative having completed the Canadian Securities Course, the Conduct & Practices Handbook, and 90‑day training.
- Completion of the Group Annuity Sector (PQPAV) (Quebec offices only); Life License (LLQP) (all other provinces), and the willingness to complete other regulatory requirements.
- Previous related experience will be considered an asset.
- Has CFP or is working towards completion considered an asset.
- Good working knowledge of Financial Planning.
- Good product knowledge.
- A demonstrated track record of above‑average sales in a financial services or related environment.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Canada’s two official languages is an asset.
In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient knowledge of English, as the work involves interacting and collaborating regularly with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other people, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
