Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.**Job Description Summary** Provides a comprehensive range of counselling services for registered and admitted UBC students including assessment and referral to the most appropriate level of care, single session and brief counselling, group counselling, and crisis intervention within the context of an integrated and collaborative stepped care model. Provides consultation services to UBC faculty and staff. Participates in training and supervision as well as the development and delivery of programs which enhance student mental wellbeing. This position actively champions, fosters and ensures the inclusion of voices that have been underrepresented or discouraged in the work they perform. **Organizational Status** Reports to the Associate Director Training, Counselling Services, Health and Wellbeing. Works cooperatively as a member of a team of professionals, actively participating in and contributing to the development and delivery of effective and efficient counselling services. Works in collaboration with Health and Wellbeing units, Student Affairs units, Faculties and other University departments and student organizations. **Work Performed**1. Provides individual, and group counselling for a broad range of personal concerns as well as crisis intervention.2. Conducts assessment to clarify students’ mental health needs and to inform the development of wellness plans and treatment.3. Works within an integrated, collaborative stepped care system of mental health support, providing referral for students to resources on and off campus as indicated. Resources include care online self-help tools, workshops, peer support, life coaching, group programs, individual counselling, medical care and crisis intervention.4. Participates in Counselling Services case management and administrative meetings and other meetings as required.5. Develops and delivers mental health programming that builds students’ capacity to manage mental health difficulties, including orientations, outreach, workshops, seminars, groups and other events and resources that help students normalize stress, learn how to manage stress and maintain wellbeing, and how to seek support when needed.6. Participates in the development of policies, processes and plans that promote student wellbeing as well as policies and procedures to ensure effective counselling service delivery.7. Provides consultation services to faculty and staff regarding the impact of policies, processes and programs on student well-being as well as specific student concerns.8. Collaborates with student, faculties, departments and other student services to develop and deliver programs and services that enhance student learning and wellbeing such as Early Alert.9. Coordinates the design, implementation, and analysis of program evaluation and research projects specific to area of coordination. 10. Liaises with community stakeholders, professional organizations, post-secondary institutions, and other partners to support effective counselling program development and delivery. 11. Coordinates programs, initiatives, and other special events related to the work of the unit.12. Provides clinical supervision and training for Doctoral Interns in intake assessment, individual counselling, group counselling, and supervision of practicum students.13. Prepares reports, publications and other documents as required. 14. Performs other duties consistent with the mandate of Counselling Services as requested.**Consequence of Error/Judgement** Must be able to act with a considerable degree of autonomy and independence in the provision of psychological assistance to students while adhering to the ethical standards of the profession. Poor professional judgment or unethical practice would be extremely detrimental to student wellbeing and in some cases could be life threatening. It would also have a significant negative impact on public relations for Counseling Services, Vantage College and the University and in some cases result in legal liability for the University. **Supervision Received** Acts independently within established clinical and ethical guidelines. Works within a model of collegial consultation and collaboration as a member of the Counselling Services team. Provides clinical services and programs under the direction of the Director of Counselling Services. **Supervision Given** Provides supervision to doctoral interns. **Minimum Qualifications** - Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own - Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion **Preferred Qualifications**Minimum of a Doctorate in Counselling or Clinical Psychology with supervised doctoral internship completed.Canadian Psychological Association accredited doctoral program and internship or equivalent preferred.Eligible for registration as a psychologist in British Columbia required.Minimum of three years of experience in clinical counselling or the equivalent combination of supervised clinical practice and experience.Must have a deep commitment to the principles and values of creating inclusive campus communities. and serving the needs of equity-deserving client populations. Lived experience of the role that gender, race, disability, gender identity, sexuality, social background play in the experience of health and wellbeing required.Training, experience and demonstrated ability to provide services that are responsive and sensitive to the needs of Black, Indigenous and other racialized and marginalized client populations required.University or college counselling experience preferred.Expertise and experience in the treatment of substance abuse and/or trauma preferred.Training and experience in the clinical supervision of graduate students preferred.Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and experience in program development, consultation and outreach.Possession of personal attributes that facilitate teamwork and the development of effective working relationships with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff.Appropriate course-work and training in mental health assessment, individual and group counselling, trauma informed care, adolescent and adult development; personality theory, career development, cross-cultural counselling, learning theory, diagnosis
