Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Initiative
Managing the threat of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Alberta is an initiative to help stop the introduction and spread of AIS into Alberta's lakes, rivers, and across borders. Watercraft inspections are part of a larger province-wide AIS Program.

If you enjoy leading and motivating people, can handle pressure well, are mechanically inclined, are able to work outdoors for long hours, and love working with the public, this may be the job for you We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to fill an AIS Supervisor / Decontamination Technician position in Medicine Hat.

As a supervisor of a watercraft inspection station, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the inspection station and the supervision of station inspectors. In your role, you will be setting, communicating, and modeling expectations for your team, ensuring inspectors are following operational procedures, creating work schedules, solving problems as they arise, and establishing a culture of health and safety at your station. AIS Supervisors are also required to participate in an on-call rotation to provide guidance to inspectors outside of regular business hours.

As a Decontamination Technician, you will be responsible for the direct delivery of the decontamination element of the provincial AIS program. This position is responsible for efficiently and effectively providing service to Albertans when watercraft require quarantine and/or are fouled with invasive species. You will also be required to tow and back up trailers and use a high-pressure hot water decontamination unit for cleaning boats.

Qualifications

Required:

• A completed two-year diploma in Natural Sciences or a related Natural Resources field.

• A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or equivalent).

• Proof of certification in Standard First Aid Level C CPR is required for an offer of employment.

• Criminal Record Check.

Assets:

• Experience in the maintenance of small engines, pumps, and equipment.

• Knowledge of watercraft systems and mechanics.

• Experience with or demonstrated training in aquatic invasive species.

• Certification in Level II or Level III Watercraft Inspections and Decontamination.

• Demonstrated experience in dealing with conflict and high-pressure situations.

• Previous supervisory experience.

Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.

Please Note:
In order to work with the boating public, you will be required to work a flexible schedule that will include travel, shift, and weekend work, potentially throughout the spring and into late fall.

All chosen candidates will be required to attend and successfully complete mandatory training.
