Overview

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in the Medical Immunology Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the immunobiology of cancer and cancer immunotherapy, focusing on T cell differentiation and immune responses with mechanistic explorations to unveil new therapeutic strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Conduct research experiments to understand the role of metabolism in regulating T cell differentiation and the immune response.

- Work with primary T cells in vitro and mouse models in vivo.

- Demonstrate expertise in flow cytometry and routinely apply core molecular biology techniques, including Western blotting and quantitative PCR (qPCR).

- Prepare written reports of the research experiments.

- Prepare grant proposals based on the research conducted.

- Give oral presentations of the research.

- Assist with the instruction and training of students, fellows, lower-level professionals, and technicians in laboratory instrumentation and processes.

- Understand and adhere to Rutgers’ compliance standards and core values.

- Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and Rutgers compliance standards.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a relevant science is required.

- Consideration will also be given to applicants who are in the process of completing their Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree; documentation of completion must be provided prior to employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Experience with flow cytometry and metabolic analyses, or ability to learn these techniques.

- Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in immunology, T cell biology, and cancer biology.

- Background in immunology or cancer biology research.

- Experience with mouse colony management and mouse experiments in vivo.

- Computer literacy with proficiency in database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, and PowerPoint.

Salary and Benefits

Salary ranges from a minimum of $20,000 to a maximum of $200,000, with the mid‑range salary around $90,000. The final offer is based on qualifications, experience, and available funding.

Working Hours

Standard hours: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week. The position requires a fully on‑site arrangement.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

- Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing.

- No special vision requirements.

- Lifting up to 25 lbs.

- Laboratory environment with moderate noise.

- Exposure to blood, excrement, retrovirus, antineoplastic drugs, and possible infectious and communicable diseases; universal precautions are mandatory.

- Exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, a Flu vaccine may be required during the Flu season unless an exemption is granted. Failure to provide proof of vaccination or obtain an exemption may result in rescission of an offer of employment or disciplinary action.
