Early Years Assistant Camp Leader - Panorama Child and Youth Camps

Business Unit: Parks Recreation and Environmental Services

Pay Grade: CAN/05/02/JB04

Rate of Pay: $19.53 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits

Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, 8:30-12:30pm

Camp will alternate between two locations: Centennial Park & Greenglade Community Centre. Must be available to attend camp training on the days of May 31st, June 7th, and an additional weekday evening leading up to summer.

Posting Date: March 7, 2025

Submission review to begin: March 28, 2025 but will remain open until filled.

This position assists in the implementation and delivery of active and engaging day camp programming for pre-school aged children (3-5 years). The successful applicant will have a positive impact on the children and families involved and be an important member of the community recreation team. The incumbent will assist in ensuring children are engaged and provided with developmentally and age-appropriate programming, while ensuring participant safety and wellbeing throughout.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

- Assists in the delivery of safe, successful, healthy, and enjoyable programming for pre-school aged children (3-5 years).
- Assists with daily program preparation and execution of planned activities, including off-site trips.
- Provides learning and guidance to participants on appropriate behaviour during play and activities.
- Works collaboratively with a Summer Early Years Day Camp Leader.
- Delivers care and support with behaviour management, inclusion, first aid, and other areas relating to caring for children.
- Ensures equipment and program spaces are safe and sanitary before and after each program session.
- Acts as a liaison between the general public and CRD; providing good customer service and clear communication with parents and caregivers.
- Follows all policies, procedures, and standards of the CRD.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Additional Information

- Term position anticipated June 30 – August 31.
- Some paid planning, training, and development time will be scheduled in May and June.

Key Skills & Abilities

- Experience assisting or leading recreational programs for pre-school aged children.
- Leadership abilities, including role model behaviours, along with the ability to demonstrate sound judgement while creating a positive, enthusiastic, safe, and fun program environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Qualifications

- Some directly related experience.

Certifications

- Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR-C.
