Position Summary
North Island College is seeking to fill an on-call, substitute assignment with the Heavy Mechanical/Heavy Duty Equipment Technician program. The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College’s vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, inter-personal skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.

Instructional Duties
1. To plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments
2. To use a variety of approaches and materials, as appropriate, in order to address different learning needs
3. To teach in assigned subject areas and to include in courses, and in course outlines, all required subject matter or skill activity
4. To direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment
5. To be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours
6. To clearly communicate in writing learning outcomes for programs and courses
7. To design and conduct evaluations or appraisals of students
8. To submit grades in a timely manner
9. To maintain records of student enrolment and achievement
Typical Professional Duties of Instructional Faculty
1. To be aware of, and to work within, College educational policies
2. To contribute to the development of the Education and Strategic plans
3. To advise the Director of items that need to be ordered
4. To advise the Director regarding enrolment management strategies
5. To advise on health and safety concerns
6. To demonstrate knowledge of computer applications appropriate to the teaching environment
7. To maintain continuous professional development of competencies and qualifications
8. To participate actively as a contributing member of the College community
9. To undertake other related responsibilities and duties assigned by the College
Required Education & Experience
1. Journeyperson Interprovincial Qualification in Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Mechanic, or Transport Trailer Technician (Red Seal)
2. Certificate of Apprenticeship
3. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a journeyperson
4. Successful experience instructing adults at a post-secondary level; a minimum of three years is preferred
5. Completion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma program is preferred
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
1. Familiarity with the Heavy Mechanical/Heavy Duty Program Outlines
2. Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours
3. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
4. Demonstrated excellent instructional abilities
5. Excellent organizational and time management skills
6. Experience setting up training programs, including curriculum development
7. Proficiency with MS Office software applications
8. Proficiency with learning technologies and digital tools
9. Demonstrated ability to work both individually and co-operatively in a team environment
