THE OPPORTUNITY: DIRECTOR TEACHING & LEARNING
The Director of Teaching and Learning (DTL) is a key leadership role, reporting to the Head of School and Deputy Head of School. The DTL is essential in driving the School's vision for academic excellence and educational innovation. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, administration, and external partners to enhance teaching practices, improve student outcomes, and align programs with CAIS best practices and Ministry of Education guidelines.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of an exceptional community school that values academic rigor, belonging, and a holistic approach to education. With a new Head of School, a supportive Board, and an engaged and inclusive community, the DTL will play an essential role within the core leadership team whose mandate is to take an excellent school to the next level, continuing to grow enrollment, ensuring fiscal sustainability, maximizing community impact, and creating top-tier learning experiences for students. The DTL will play an essential role in supporting teachers in their pedagogical practice.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Program Leadership:
1. Lead the continued development and implementation of forward-thinking teaching practices across Grades 8-12. King David defines forward-thinking teaching practices as including but not limited to:
1. Student-Centred
2. Project-Based Learning
3. Program alignment in all disciplines
1. Establish and oversee a comprehensive professional development program for faculty, fostering innovation, collaboration and a growth mindset;
2. Support the alignment and effectiveness of curriculum planning, assessment, grading, and reporting;
3. Evaluate and monitor the academic program's efficacy, using data-driven insights to inform continuous improvement;
4. Ensure alignment with CAIS and Ministry of Education standards, fostering excellence in programming and compliance;
5. Promote technology integration to enhance teaching and learning;
6. Support general and Judaic Studies curriculum integration.
Support and Monitor Student Growth:
1. Support wellness and social-emotional programs that address the holistic needs of students;
2. Cultivate a character-based, Jewish learning environment that fosters student leadership and community engagement;
3. Utilize data to identify opportunities for academic interventions and enrichment programs;
4. Coach, guide and mentor faculty in alignment with the school's Professional Growth Model;
5. Lead teacher evaluation processes, providing actionable feedback and mentorship;
6. Encourage the sharing of best practices and reflective teaching among faculty members;
7. Act as a resource for staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
Strategic Leadership and Community Engagement:
1. Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to shape and implement the school's strategic plan;
2. Represent King David within CAIS, ISABC, and other networks, building relationships to promote innovation and excellence;
3. Support the Head of School and Deputy Head of School in managing the school's accreditation process, ensuring adherence to CAIS and ISABC standards and Ministry of Education regulations, while preparing for and overseeing inspections and evaluations;
4. Engage with parents, students, and the broader community through communication, events, and workshops;
5. Support recruitment efforts by showcasing the strength and innovation of its academic programs.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Be visible and present on campus and build meaningful relationships with students, parents, and faculty;
2. Stay current on educational trends through professional learning and active participation in relevant conferences;
3. Contribute to the school's mission by actively supporting its operations, communication, and development initiatives.
THE PERSON:
The ideal Director, Teaching and Learning candidate will bring extensive experience in secondary school leadership, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and an ability to inspire and collaborate with a diverse community of students, parents, faculty, and staff. Possessing an inclusive and transparent leadership style, they build engagement by creating a true team environment, leveraging the considerable expertise and strengths that exist across King David. They should be comfortable working at both the hands-on and strategic levels, possessing sufficient administrative and pedagogical acumen to effectively steward the School's resources and educational direction. The DTL should be decisive, and possess policy, systems, and planning expertise to assist with complex decision-making, as well as guiding staff through challenging initiatives.
Professional and Personal Qualifications:
1. Master's degree (or higher) in Education or Educational Leadership;
2. Valid BC Teaching Certification (or eligibility);
3. 10+ years of high school teaching experience and 5+ years of educational leadership experience;
4. Demonstrated experience in leading professional development and mentoring faculty;
5. Strong knowledge of BC curriculum, assessment, and standards-based grading;
6. Experience with leading organizational change using change management best practices;
7. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders;
8. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning community;
9. Familiarity with independent school operations and accreditation processes;
10. Strategic thinker with strong organizational and communication skills;
11. Personal qualities of integrity, warmth, flexibility, adaptability and a sense of humour.

COMPENSATION:
A compensation package will be provided including an attractive base salary and excellent benefits, including a 9% RSP match. The salary range is $135,000 – $160,000. Further details will be discussed in a personal interview.
