As part of the Mine Geology team, the Mine Geologist is responsible for all grade control practices in the underground and on surface. This includes mapping, direction in geology- controlled developments, sampling, monitoring underground ore flow, stockpile management, and liaising with metallurgy to ensure blend rates are maintained.
The Mine Geologist may also be required to log drill core as required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and conducting regular safety meetings and inspections.
- Follow safe work procedures and grade control data collection processes (including QAQC systems)
- Provide timely and accurate completion of daily, and weekly reconciliation reports
- including stockpile management, mine geology, and grade drivers.
- Communicate geological, geotechnical, and grade information to site technical, management, and contractor personnel to assist with mine planning and achieving production targets.
- Facilitate the access, visualization, interpretation, and application of geological data (including QAQC) for use in mineral resource estimation, grade control, geotechnical, geo‑metallurgical, mine production, and drill and blast functions.
- Support stakeholders to ensure that ore is extracted to maximize recovery and minimize ore loss and dilution.
- Assist with reviewing and producing QAQC reports monthly.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to monitor blending schedules as required.
- Follow all mining regulations, environmental permits, and company policies related to underground mining operations.
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies or incidents that may occur during underground mining activities, following established emergency protocols.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration with other mine site departments and personnel to optimize overall mine site operations.
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- B.Sc. in Geology or equivalent required.
- 0-3 years’ experience. Exposure to underground mining operations would be an asset.
- Basic understanding of underground grade control processes and practices.
- Exposure to Datamine and Deswik mining software would be an asset.
- Basic knowledge of sampling and QAQC.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of mining processes, data management processes, and ore‑forming processes.
- Possession of relevant safety certifications and First Aid is an asset.
- A registered G.I.T. (Geoscientist‑in‑Training) in good standing with a provincial regulatory organization (i.e., APEGS, PGO, APEGBC, etc.).
Compensation and Benefits:
We offer a competitive starting salary of $86,625 per year, with the potential for a higher starting rate based on experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary short-term incentive award, rewarding exceptional contributions to team and company success.
