Roles and Responsibilities

The General Consultant is required to work with Clients to develop a course of action and steps for implementing a project plan, taking into account broader managerial and business implications. The consultant may be responsible for providing day-to-day guidance to a team and hands-on support services related to the development and management of project-related documentation and plans as well as facilitation of project tasks. Other responsibilities may include undertaking detailed analyses to identify key business issues as well as coordinating and executing the delivery of specific project activities.

Experience Levels:

1. Junior level: 1 - 3 years of experience
2. Mid-level: 4 - 5 years of experience
3. Senior level: min of 5 years of experience

Required Qualifications

Experience with project management methodologies and other specific knowledge areas, including:

1. Business and strategic planning
2. Quality management
3. Scope management
4. Problem solving and negotiation

Excellent interpersonal skills, including:

1. Group facilitation/team management
2. Communications (oral and written)
3. Relationship management and effective collaboration
4. Knowledge transfer to the Client

Experience with business methodologies and tools, including:

1. Business analysis
2. Performance measurement
3. Logic models

Knowledge of and experience with business transformation, process improvement and change management.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to prioritize workload, demonstrate critical thinking, identify problems, develop and implement solutions.

Strong customer service orientation to ensure needs of Clients are effectively met.

Excellent communication/presentation skills in both verbal and written formats to all levels of the organization.

A team player with excellent multi-tasking abilities and a proven track record for meeting strict deadlines.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including group facilitation skills, experience in preparing reports, proposals, briefing materials, presentations and other communications.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of OPS Integrated Project Management Framework and Methodology.

Knowledge and experience with the policies and procedures of the Ontario government (e.g., policy development, procurement, financial analysis, business case development, project management, communication strategies, project approvals).

Experience with operational optimization in a unionized public sector environment.

Knowledge of public sector structure and policies, including:

1. Relevant public policy objectives, principles and constraints.
2. Organizational culture/unionized public sector environment.
3. Application of relevant legislation and policies (e.g., Conflict of Interest, FIPPA).
