Horizon Health Network in beautiful New Brunswick is looking for a Pediatric Neurology Locum to join our team
Horizon Health Network, Saint John area (Region 2), is actively seeking one (1) full-time, Locum for Pediatric Neurology, with short-term and long-term locum options available. Join a Pediatric Department that believes in collaboration, teamwork, research, medical education, and excellence in clinical care. Our vibrant department currently has eight General Pediatricians, one other Pediatric Neurologist (four total in province) and four Neonatologists. The Pediatric ward is a 20-bed inpatient unit. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a level 3 medical unit caring for neonates of all gestations excluding those with requiring general or cardiac surgery services, which are referred to the IWK Health Centre in Nova Scotia. There is capacity to perform Pediatric EEG and MRI on site. Research services is a supportive and vibrant department of Horizon and accessible for clinical research support.

What you will do
- Provide ambulatory care in a clinic setting which may include traveling to rural communities for outreach clinics.
- Provide inpatient care as required and requested by the Clinical Department Head.
- Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
- Participate in departmental medical education initiatives.
- Provide province-wide on-call services during statutory holidays, evenings, and weekends as part of the on-call schedule and EEG interpretation and reporting.
- Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority's mission, values, and strategic directions.
- Additional duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of Horizon Health Network.
Hours of Work
- Hours of work are normally provided between 0800hrs – 1600hrs Monday to Friday, unless otherwise agreed upon by the Service/Department Head.
- After-hours and weekend call coverage in coordination with members of the provincial call service.
Remuneration
- The remuneration rate for a locum would range from $273,959.40 / $140.49/hour (as a non-certified specialist, step A) to $333,075.60 / $170.81/hour (as a certified specialist, Step C). These amounts include the 10% locum benefit received in lieu of not receiving stat holidays, vacation, sick, etc. The remuneration is based on license, experience, and Medicare approval.
- On call remuneration is Fee-For-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare New Brunswick.
Qualifications
- Must have a Medical Degree from a recognized medical school and postgraduate studies (residency) in the field of Pediatric Medicine.
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Pediatric Neurology, or equivalent.
- Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
- Proficiency in English is required. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.
- In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
- Good attendance and work record.
- Physically able to perform assigned duties.

About the Facility
Horizon's Saint John Regional Hospital is the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick and is the primary health care referral centre for this area and to all New Brunswickers for major trauma and cardiac care.
The New Brunswick Trauma Program, New Brunswick Heart Centre, and the New Brunswick Stem Cell Transplant Centre are located within the hospital, as are Radiation Oncology and Nephrology services. This site offers autologous stem cell therapy and a stem cell processing laboratory.
The Saint John Regional Hospital also serves as the centre for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick's distributed medical education program. The hospital services a catchment population of 170,000 people.
