Duties

- Complete maintenance tasks using all required tools and material to complete the tasks for the bases assigned aircraft.
- Conduct scheduled aircraft inspections in accordance with approved procedures.
- Troubleshoot and rectify unscheduled aircraft unserviceabilities in accordance with approved procedures.
- Exercise and document in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR's) and the Aircraft Service Directorate (ASD) Maintenance Control Manual (MCM) the nature and extent of all maintenance conducted on Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) aircraft in the appropriate technical records.
- Certify maintenance release for all maintenance tasks that the individual either completed or supervised.
- Work with pilots, Coast Guard personnel, ASD HQ personnel to manage and schedule maintenance operations.
- Submit safety and service difficulty issues to the Safety Management System in a clear and concise manner.
- Liaise with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) personnel to solicit clarification regarding maintenance procedures when not clear or published.
- Support ASD’s QA assurance programme by participating in and addressing observations in order to support the continuous improvement of ASD’s maintenance practices.
- Maintain an AME licence, obtain and maintain ASD Aircraft Certifying Authority (ACA), maintain Health Canada fitness level to sail aboard CCG vessels, obtain and maintain helicopter underwater egress training (HUET) certification, and be capable of deploying independently to support single aircraft operations.

Intent of the process

Information you must provide

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following essential qualifications

Education

- Successful completion of a recognized post‑secondary school program in aircraft maintenance or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.

Occupational Certification

- Possession of a valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer category Licence M1 and/or M2.

Experience

- Recent* and significant** experience as a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, category M1 and/or M2, maintaining rotary‑wing aircraft.

* Recent is defined as within the last 4 years.
** Significant experience is defined as a minimum of 3 years of experience.

- Maintenance type training and/or experience maintaining one or more of the following aircraft types: Bell 412, Bell 429.

Operational requirements

- Willingness and ability to undertake training to maintain or upgrade knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Willingness and ability to work in a flexible environment on a variable day work and/or shift work schedule, including weekends and some standby on the employee’s days of rest.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance.

- Possession of a valid driver’s licence.
- Possession of a valid Canadian Passport.
- Successful completion of medical examinations as prescribed by Health Canada.
- Willing and able to work shifts and overtime on short notice during the week or on weekends.
- Willingness and ability to work in various positions on aircraft and in the hangar, which may involve standing, kneeling, lying, and sitting as well as crawling into confined spaces and climbing elevated maintenance stands.
- Willing and able to undertake initial and update dunker training.
- Willingness to perform flight engineer duties on aircraft operating away from base.
- Willing and able to travel for extended periods up to six (6) weeks at a time including aboard DFO/Canadian Coast Guard Ships in Coastal Waterways.
