Located at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, working with postpartum patients, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. The LPN will care for postpartum mothers and newborns. The incumbent must demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and consider the Essential Habits as set forth by the Royal Alex Way in daily interactions with colleagues, patients and visitors. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Successful completion of a medication exam at time of interview. This position requires the ability to meet the physical demands associated with nursing duties in an acute hospital unit setting. These include but are not limited to: Frequent pushing and pulling of equipment or patients Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the shift Regular bending, kneeling, twisting and reaching Ability to lift, move, or assist patients and equipment weighing up to 40-50 pounds Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. Recent experience in an acute care setting - maternal/child health preferred.
