About the role
The Regulatory Affairs Specialist is responsible for all regulatory issues relating to the products sold by the company including the packaging and marketing materials used both online and in-store, in regard with Health Canada and FDA requirements as well as internal HACCP and SQF standards. They provide advice, support, and guidance to the following teams with respect to regulatory and compliance issues – Tea, Marketing, Procurement, and Quality teams. In addition, they will communicate with suppliers as needed.

Responsibilities
Product information:
1. Manage and ensure all product certifications such as Organic, Kosher, Fair-Trade as well as other certifications.
2. Product specification sheet review and sign-off; liaise with vendors as needed with any questions or issues.
3. Manage product testing (nutritional, caffeine, allergens as needed) of all teas and track results; liaison with external laboratory.
4. Generate nutritional fact tables for all teas and packaging (aggregates).
5. Ensure ingredients and allergens statements are accurate and compliant to US/CAN standards.
Product certifications:
1. Manage store organic certifications and resulting corrective actions.
2. Maintain organic certification documents and support warehouse annual audit.
Product Labelling/Regulatory Compliance:
1. Research any new ingredients to ensure compliance with Canadian and US regulations.
2. Monitor changes to ingredient status changes in North America as well as Europe and other markets as needed.
3. Evaluate and present options for new packaging ideas in order to maintain regulatory compliance.
4. Review and proofread all product labels and packaging against the appropriate regulations and internal standards.
5. Manage label creation and approval for all in-store bulk labels (scale labels).
6. Maintain current knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations, standards, or guidance documents for Canada and USA activities.
7. Trademark verification/review of new tea names.
8. Support various teams in the case of labelling issues and act as liaison with inspectors/agencies as needed.
9. Update and create SOP's upon request.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
• 3-5 years experience in a food regulatory environment.
• Bachelors of Science in nutritional health, nutritional science, or related field.
• Understanding of Canadian and US food labeling standards.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills, able to multitask and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Proactive problem-solver.
• Team player willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
• Ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of standards: HACCP, SQF, GFSI.
