Legal Nurse Consultant (RN) — Medical Malpractice

Position Type: Full-time

Paul Cahill, a leading Toronto medical-malpractice lawyer, is seeking a Legal Nurse Consultant (RN) to join the firm (Davidson Cahill Morrison LLP) and support the review, analysis, and litigation of complex medical-injury cases. This role is ideal for an experienced Registered Nurse who enjoys critical thinking, case analysis, and working closely with counsel on medically-focused legal files.

About the Role

In this hybrid clinical-legal position, you will play a key role in case evaluation and litigation support, including:

- Reviewing and analyzing medical records, hospital charts, and diagnostic imaging reports
- Preparing chronologies, case summaries, and clinical insight reports
- Assisting with merit assessments, causation analysis, and standard-of-care issues
- Identifying and liaising with medical experts
- Supporting discovery, mediation, and trial preparation
- Communicating with clients, providers, and experts in a professional, compassionate manner
- Contributing to file management and litigation support tasks as needed

Qualifications

- Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing (Ontario preferred)
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience (acute care, obstetrics, surgery, emergency, or critical care experience is an asset)
- Prior experience in medical-legal work, insurance, risk management, or clinical auditing is an asset — but training can be provided for the right candidate
- Strong skills in technology, critical thinking, written communication, organization, and attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, professional legal environment
