POSITION TITLE: Crisis Support Worker
CLASSIFICATION: Level 4: $60,000 - $67,500

The Crisis Support Worker will be responsible for responding effectively in crisis situations; ensuring support to children, youth, and families during difficult times. The role will require flexibility and prompt response.
In addition to crisis support, the role includes delivering culturally appropriate programming for children, youth, and families with a holistic approach that promotes and supports a healthy family lifestyle.
The Crisis Support Worker will be required to work often in conjunction with other departments within Nigig Nibi Ki-win Gamik to ensure a holistic approach to well-being.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Crisis Support
- Collaborate with emergency services to stabilize crisis issues of individuals.
- Provide intensive short-term crisis support services to facilitate a successful transition to longer-term supports and services including but not limited to providing respite.
- Provide short-term follow-up and support to individuals following a crisis assessment.
- Provide resources and supports to family members of individuals in crisis.
- Assessment of client needs and mental status and the development of appropriate recovery plans.
- Facilitate and monitor crisis recovery plans.
- Provide linkages to longer-term resources for those individuals in crisis.
- Program and Service Delivery
- Plan, coordinate, and implement individual and group programs according to community needs i.e. children, families, and parents.
- Provide opportunities for the enhancement and development of a positive cultural identity for children, youth, families, and communities served.
- Follow program guidelines, rules, regulations, and complete all necessary forms.
- Promote and advertise programs and activities.
- Complete incident reports as required.
- Complete all administrative duties and responsibilities including an inventory of materials & supplies.
- Acknowledge and implement practices based on trauma-informed care.
- Provide on-call support as required.
- Work closely with Nigig Nibi Ki-win Gamik's planning committees, programs, and services to ensure quality program delivery.
- Participate in relevant boards, committees, and community development projects.
- Participate actively in task or work groups as assigned.
- Participate in staff meetings and recovery plan meetings.
- Community Development
- Identify, assess, and prioritize family and child prevention needs.
- Participate in developing strategic plans and annualized work plans.
- Participate and coordinate new prevention strategies and initiatives.
- Provide education and support to key stakeholders for the purpose of enhancing crisis services within Pikwakanagan and Renfrew County.
- Liaise and network with community and other child and youth services for the integration of new and existing services.
- Participate on relevant committees and meetings.
- Promote community awareness of prevention services.
- Administrative
- Develop and implement tools to ensure evidence-based reporting.
- Complete all administrative reporting requirements according to policies and funding agent mandates.
- Maintain client files and data files including updating of client information consistent with policies and procedures of Nigig Nibi Ki-win Gamik Society.
- Participate in ongoing training and education and application of new skills to practice.
- Participate in administrative and office functions.
- Computer literacy and good note-taking and recording skills.
- Quality Management
- Utilize evidence-based reporting to evaluate annualized work plans.
- Participate in cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity training.
- Participate in staff development initiatives and training relevant to their role or as mandated by the organization.
- Ensure all certifications are current.
- Ensure that policies and procedures are developed and implemented in adherence to all relevant legislation and regulatory bodies.
- Provide a safe environment by ensuring adherence to Workplace Health and Safety Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHIMIS and Safe Work Procedures; including but not limited to Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plans.
- Support an environment which avoids, prevents, and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of mental health services.
- Participate in a comprehensive risk management plan for Prevention Services.
- Ensure the protection and privacy of all Prevention Services information and records in strict confidentiality.

- Perform other related duties as may be required by the department Supervisor/Manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves extensive public contact with clients, emergency services workers, child welfare agencies, and other Nigig departments; work is subject to deadlines and interruptions. Work involves handling and dealing with issues of a very sensitive and confidential nature. Work involves a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, travel, and transporting clients.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
1. Basic Requirements
- Some post-secondary education in Mental Health or Social Work with a minimum of one year of successful experience working with children, youth, and families, preferably in a First Nation setting.
- Expertise in mental health/illness and mental health difficulties and treatment modalities, with a willingness to participate in additional training provided.
- Willing to be coached.
- Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- A minimum of a valid class "G" driver's license and access to a dependable vehicle.
- Provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain.
- Experience with computer operations and software programs, preferably Microsoft 365 Suite.
- Rated Requirements
- Knowledge of intergenerational violence and trauma in Indigenous communities.
- Understanding of Algonquin Anishinàbeg culture, social structure, and traditional approaches to helping and healing.
- Aware of Pikwakanagan's community-based services and external resources.
- Knowledge of social service resources within the Renfrew County Region and the ability to make referrals, guide, and advocate on behalf of clients.

- Complete narrative and statistical reports.
- Research, analyze, conceptualize, organize, and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

- Work flexible hours, sometimes on short notice.
