Welland, Canada Billyard Insurance Full time

Compliance Specialist

Billyard Insurance Group (BIG) is a leading force in the insurance industry, committed to attracting the best insurance professionals and equipping them with cutting-edge technology, tools, and unwavering support to thrive in today's dynamic insurance landscape. With a strong presence and continuous growth, we boast over 80 locations across Canada. Our dedication to excellence has earned us prestigious recognition, including being featured on Insurance Business Canada's esteemed Top Brokerages list for the past three years and securing a spot as one of Canada's Top Growing Companies in the renowned Globe and Mail's Report on Business. At Billyard Insurance Group, our mission is clear: to establish a nationally recognized insurance brokerage brand that empowers brokers and leads the digital insurance revolution.

At Billyard Insurance Group (BIG), compliance is more than a requirement — it’s a commitment to doing the right thing for our clients, our brokers, and our business. As we continue to grow across Ontario and beyond, we’re looking for a Compliance Specialist who brings both sound judgment and real-world insurance experience to help strengthen our operations and support a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

This is a meaningful opportunity for a seasoned compliance professional or an experienced insurance professional ready to apply their underwriting, brokerage, or client-facing expertise in a compliance-focused role.

What does the Compliance Specialist do?

As the Compliance Specialist you will play a key role in ensuring BIG’s personal lines insurance operations align with Ontario regulatory requirements and market guidelines. You will work closely with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and branches to identify risks, resolve escalations, and strengthen compliance practices across the organization. In this role, you will:

- Ensure insurance operations comply with Ontario regulations and market guidelines.

- Develop, maintain, and support internal compliance policies and procedures.

- Lead end-to-end reviews of branch, market, regulatory, and E&O escalations, providing recommendations to the Compliance Committee.

- Respond to regulatory inquiries and complaints with accuracy and professionalism.

- Analyze compliance data to identify risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.

- Partner with underwriting, quality assurance, and internal teams to align compliance practices.

- Monitor, document, and report compliance incidents or breaches.

- Stay current on regulatory changes and communicate updates to stakeholders.

- Support compliance training and prepare reports for leadership.

Does this sound like you?

You are someone who values integrity, attention to detail, and collaboration — and you understand the realities of insurance operations. You’re comfortable navigating complex regulations while maintaining a practical, solution-oriented mindset. To succeed in this role, you likely bring:

- Strong knowledge of Ontario insurance regulations and personal lines operations.

- The ability to identify, assess, and manage compliance risk with confidence.

- Clear, professional communication skills — written and verbal.

- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across teams.

- A calm, thoughtful presence when handling escalations or sensitive matters.

- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

- A commitment to client service, ethical decision-making, and continuous improvement.

- Comfort adapting to regulatory change and evolving internal processes.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in insurance, compliance, underwriting, brokerage operations, or a related function.

- Active and appropriate insurance broker licensing with a relevant regulatory body.

- Post-secondary education in Insurance, Business Administration, Economics, Law, Finance, or a related field (an asset).

- Professional designations such as CIP, CAIB, CSIP, or CPIB (an asset).

What We Offer

- Salary Band 5: $62,000-$79,000

- Target Hiring Range $62,000 - $66,000

- People-focused company culture

- Comprehensive benefits including medical, vision, dental, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

- 3 weeks’ of paid vacation prorated based on start date.

- Birthday day off

- Hybrid work from home / in-office environment

* Final offer based on experience, internal equity and budget considerations.
