About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operationsis Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Superintendent, Improvement, the Improvement Coordinator is a core member of Highland Valley Copper’s (HVC) Improvement Team. This small site group works with other site departments on developing, carrying out, and maintaining continuous improvement initiatives to achieve business value across the operation.
This role is an exciting opportunity to help HVC sustain its place as a leader in mining and processing continuous improvement.

Your analytical skills will help you solve large and unclear business problems by forming and testing ideas. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to work with different teams, including mining engineers, mine operations, and continuous improvement specialists, to create, apply, and maintain innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, follow and support safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Focus on understanding and staying in sync with all site access and safety regulations at Teck’s operating sites
- Be the primary source of reliable data and rock-solid analysis, providing the fact base the team uses to make decisions
- Act as a core resource in ranging exercises, predictive analytics, performance reporting, economic modelling, and value chain mapping to help Teck leaders make data driven decisions
- Develop implementation plans for portfolio of initiatives that have clear arguments and agreement from key collaborators, aligned with HVC’s strategic pipeline
- Track the performance of improvement initiatives via benchmarks such as indicator impact, end user adoption, schedule & cost
- In addition, collaborate with teams to proactively identify risks, issues and/or opportunities to ensure the maximum business value delivered
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field
- Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience in process improvement, cost reduction, mining operations, engineering, and planning
- Experience with databases, data analytics, and business intelligence tools (SQL, PowerBI, Python)
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
- Solid understanding of mining industry fundamentals
- Strong facilitation skills to enable participative discussions and learning among department members
- Enthusiastic and driven by interacting with other teams
- Communication: excellent at articulating points, and effectively delivering a message
- Change Agent: experience and understanding of effective change management
- Relationship Builder: builds relationships easily and comfortable with approaching others
- Coach: Coaches and trains idea owners on improvement process and project management
- Adaptable: comfortable with working in ambiguous and unstructured settings
- Problem Solving: able to organize complex problems, frame analysis, and arrive at conclusions quickly
- Dedicated: able to independently deliver work products to timelines
- Influencer: able to work effectively and build relationships with people from across collaborators, departments, companies, etc.

Pay Range: CAD $105,000 - $130,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
Working Conditions:
- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
