Your Opportunity

Stantec's Community Development team is growing in Atlantic Canada and we are leading an increasing amount of exciting planning and development projects with multi-disciplinary and integrated service offerings. This includes projects in the private and public sectors such as redevelopment plans, new community and town center plans, housing studies, streetscape and infrastructure projects, and a variety of urban planning related projects.

We are seeking an Intermediate Planner within our Community Development team ideally based in our Moncton, Halifax, Fredericton, or Charlottetown offices. The role spans a broad range of disciplines and would suit an individual with strong design background in urban, regional, and rural planning and design. Your focus in this role will be ensuring consistent and high-quality deliverables and bringing your subject matter expertise to inform and offer value to our clients. You will also have the opportunity to lead projects, interface with clients, and collaborate internally to bring value to our clients. As a 32,000-person interdisciplinary firm, the business and career opportunities within Stantec are extensive. While part of this larger team, your work will primarily be based within a collaborative planning and design team serving our Atlantic Canadian market.

Your Key Responsibilities

1. Planning and design tasks: development of preliminary concepts into workable and approvable plans including collaboration with lead designers, engaging with other disciplines, client interaction, design analysis and statistics, proof of concept analysis, and guidance of design rationale across a project team.

2. Reporting tasks: writing and contributing to design briefs, reports, and presentations in support of project reviews and approvals.

3. Graphic tasks: production of diagrams in support of urban design/planning tasks. Ability to support/prepare 3D views, sketches, renderings and models in design programs such as SketchUp, Lumion, etc. would be considered an asset.

4. Support planning and development projects, including municipal plan reviews, master planning, development applications, active transportation planning, redevelopment and neighborhood plans and strategies, and municipal policy projects from a planning and urban design perspective.

5. Community consultations: Organize and support various virtual and in-person public engagement activities for project and business development related work.

6. Support business development and marketing initiatives including strategic planning, opportunity identification, proposal pursuit and preparation, client liaison, preparation of on-line marketing content and social media monitoring.

7. Interface directly with clients and provide clear, well-articulated and solution-oriented recommendations.

8. Create and maintain relationships with other practice areas to promote cross-selling and interdisciplinary work.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

1. Ability to lead community, land, and site development and planning tasks.

2. Experience with public engagement programs and leading virtual and in-person consultations.

3. Strong client management and communication skills. The ability to communicate in French is considered an asset.

4. Highly effective in assembling and leading multi-discipline teams.

5. Comprehensive understanding of land use and development processes, applicable government regulations and planning policy/theory.

6. In-depth knowledge of planning policies and processes.

7. Experience presenting before clients.

8. Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.

9. Proficiency with various design-based software, such as SketchUp.

10. Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects, PMP accreditation an asset.

11. Strong understanding of Microsoft Office suite.

Education and Experience

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent in Planning with 5 years of experience in public and private sector community planning.

2. A Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or Licensed Professional Planner (LPP) designation or eligibility to obtain such a designation.

Salary Range(s):

- $71,700 - $104,000 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in PEI

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
