About this opportunity:

Cenovus is looking for a Thermal Plant Operator to join its organization, based at Paradise Hill Thermal. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual focused on meeting important facility metrics, providing mentorship to all levels of staff, and building and maintaining both internal and external relationships. This position is responsible for achieving all facility targets, including Safety, Production, Costs, and Reliability. This role will also ensure the safe and efficient operation of the facility, meeting all standards and expectations of Cenovus's organizational culture.

Work Environment:

- This position is located in the Lloydminster area and requires the successful candidate to live in the area.
- This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation.

What you’ll do:

- Operate the facility in a safe and effective manner while working collaboratively as part of the operating team.
- Maintain and troubleshoot all area-specific equipment to optimize performance to meet production targets as per company’s guidelines.
- Perform condition monitoring including sampling and testing per area responsibilities. Complete area operations records (e.g. volume balances, log sheets, work permits, and required reports).
- Support operations-performed maintenance activities in alignment with the site’s operating philosophy, and provide guidance to on-site maintenance contractors by effectively communicating the Company’s requirements, policies, and procedures, while leading by example.
- Provide assistance, mentoring, on-the-job training, and assessments to new employees as required.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry such as a Petrochemical Refinery, Upgrader, or SAGD (experience in other industries like Pulp and Paper or Power Generation will be considered).
- 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency.
- Understanding of processes and associated control systems including PLC (programmable logic control) and DCS (distributed control system).
- Experience in equipment isolation for maintenance, as well as expertise in safe work permitting and hazard analysis.
- Power Engineering or Technical School (2 years) and a First or Second Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency are considered assets.
- Knowledge of Safety and Regulatory standards and procedures, along with experience in SAGD Process, Steam, and Production Well operation are considered assets.
- Gas Process Operations (GPO)/Production Field Operations (PFO) levels I, II, III, & IV or A, B, C & D are considered assets.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position, you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
