24/7 Occupational & Emergency Medicine Solutions is looking for two CANNN (NU) Registered Nurses (RN licence current and in good standing) to work at an occupational health clinic located at a large mine in the Bathurst Inlet region of Nunavut. The RN would be joining a team of medical professionals including Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, Advanced Care Paramedics, and Primary Care Paramedics. Our occupational health clinic is supported remotely by a team of ER physicians.

Position Overview
The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) will provide on-site services to support baseline and pre-employment assessments, periodic assessments and occupational health screening. They will coordinate return-to-work planning and provide case management services as required for workers with occupational and non-occupational injury or illness.
The OHN will provide clinic support to the on-site physician assistants as needed.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Conduct baseline and pre-employment or post hire medical assessments for all employees.
- Collaborate with OEMS deputy medical directors to determine fitness for work and recommend appropriate workplace modifications or modified duties.
- Provide baseline and periodic health surveillance assessments, including audiometric and spirometry testing, respirator fit testing, and blood collection for monitoring.
- Collaborate with community providers to refer and receive chest X-ray and bloodwork results for baseline and periodic screening.
- Collect specimens for urine drug and breath alcohol testing as required.
- Coordinate return-to-work planning for employees who are off work due to health illnesses or injuries, involving HR, managers, union representatives, medical treatment providers, and insurance providers including WSCC.
- Work directly with WSCC and disability insurance carriers as applicable.
- Determine eligibility of claims, fitness to work, and coordinate return-to-work plans in consultation with deputy medical directors and onsite medical personnel.
- Provide clear written and verbal communication to claimants, clients, administrators, doctors, and insurers for case management.
- Request and refer for medical clarification, functional ability assessment, and independent medical examination when appropriate.
- Maintain medical records in compliance with applicable privacy legislation.
- Review claims status and return-to-work timelines with HR or business representatives.
- Collaborate with OEMS leadership to develop and implement return-to-work strategies and modified work plans.
- Provide clinic support to physician assistants within RN scope of practice and approved delegated medical acts.
Education and Experience
- Registered Nurse with active registration in good standing.
- Approved Occupational Health Nursing Certification with minimum 5 years of experience in disability claims management (or equivalently continuing education with equivalent industry experience).
- Current CPR certification; ACLS required.
- TNCC or equivalent certification is an asset.
- ITLS is an asset.
- Experience in alcohol and drug testing is an asset.
- Preference for candidates with emergency nursing or occupational health emergency response experience.
- Experience with third‑party administrators and Workers’ Compensation Boards; WSCC experience is an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, time management and decision-making skills.
- Strong planning, organizing, attention to detail.
- Ability to work in fast‑paced, performance‑driven environment and adapt quickly to change.
- Strong oral, written communication, interpersonal skills and professional telephone etiquette.
- Demonstrated analytical and negotiating skills in difficult situations with professional integrity.
- Experience with union represented workforces is an asset.
- Strong team player capable of working independently.
- Familiarity with Windows environment and EMR such as Cority.
- Active participation in professional growth and development activities.
Compensation
Daily rate of $800–$850 overtime averaged for 12 hour/day (inclusive of 4% vacation pay).
