Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Critical Care Team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital (ARH) in Abbotsford, B.C. The NP works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and timely care for patients. ARH’s Critical Care is a dynamic team that focuses on Adult Critical Care in a 20 bed closed unit—10 ICU beds and 10 High Acuity beds—supported by intensivists, Nurse Practitioners, Critical Care RNs, Respiratory Therapists and Allied Health professionals.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse Practitioner position is designed as an acute care NP role with the aim to work in a collaborative manner in a team setting. The primary goal is to provide supportive care from an acute NP perspective to a defined population of patients admitted to the ICU at ARH.

Responsibilities

1. Diagnoses and treats undifferentiated diseases, disorders, and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner scope; writes orders for treatment and medications; provides first-line care in emergencies.
2. Monitors ongoing care, orders appropriate screening and diagnostic investigations; interprets reports and analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment.
3. Establishes priorities for management of health, diseases, disorders, and conditions; provides follow-up treatment; communicates with patients and families about health findings, diagnoses and priorities, outcomes and prognoses; supports and counsels patients in their responses to diseases, disorders and conditions.
4. Collaborates and consults with physicians and other health care and social service providers to assess and diagnose patient status; develops and implements treatment plans; may admit and discharge patients according to organizational policies.
5. Prescribes drugs within statutory and regulatory standards and employer policies.
6. Assigns work to other nursing and health care personnel; evaluates work and provides education and supervision as necessary; hires staff and evaluates staff performance.
7. Participates in research contributing to improved patient care and advances in nursing, health policy development and population health.
8. Maintains population health focus by implementing screening and health promotion activities for populations at risk.
9. Participates in interdisciplinary staff and nursing education through case presentations, mentoring, role modeling and facilitating knowledge exchange; fosters health care partnerships.
10. Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.
11. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
