The Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in experimental chemistry, with a preference for candidates able to teach in the areas of physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry or organic chemistry. The research area is broadly defined and includes but is not limited to synthesis, catalysis, spectroscopy, nanoscience and materials science. The successful applicant will be offered a tenure‑track appointment with an expected start date of January 1 2027 or as negotiated. A PhD in chemistry is required and postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred.
The salary for this position is in the range of $110,000 – $135,000. The candidate’s qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine the final salary. The University of Victoria is committed to offering an equitable and competitive salary, including a generous benefits package, leaves and a pension plan. Department of Chemistry https://www.uvic.ca/science/chemistry/ is a research‑intensive unit that provides outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs, boasting new research space and offering exceptional research opportunities in the areas of health, energy and materials chemistry. The Department is highly collegial and benefits from the services of a very effective and dedicated technical staff. The state‑of‑the‑art departmental infrastructure dedicated to teaching and research includes a suite of NMR spectrometers, mass spectrometers, X‑ray diffractometers, as well as glassblowing, instrument and machine shops. Researchers and students also benefit from shared user facilities in the interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials and Related Technologies (CAMTEC) which houses state‑of‑the‑art optical and electron microscopes, and a suite of characterization and fabrication tools.
The successful candidate will be an emerging world‑class scholar who has demonstrated research productivity and has the potential to achieve international recognition within 5–10 years. - Curriculum vitae, including a complete list of publications.
- Research proposal (maximum 5 pages plus up to 2 pages of references).
- Teaching statement (maximum 2 pages).
- Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) statement (maximum 1 page), indicating previous experience with a diverse group of co‑workers and collaborators, and a brief plan for future implementation of an inclusive environment within the research group.
